Pretty hike. About 3 miles round trip. If you want to do one way you can start at the north end of the Coastal trail and end at the Cliff House.
We walked from Lands End to Sutro Baths & the Cliff House. The views are amazing but since that apparently is not a secret, we had lots of company during the walk. If your idea of a nature walk is to just quietly admire the natural scenery, then this is not the walk for you (I did wonder why some of the folks were on the trail since they did not seem to pay any attention to what was around them and seemed only interested in the conversations they were having w/ their walking companions).
There are breathtaking FREE sunset views here overlooking the coast. It's easy to get here using the Muni (we were able to take the 38L bus and 5 bus from our hotel near Union Square). You should plan to walk 4 minutes down to Cliff House before after your visit for a glass of wine or meal (a little pricey but worth it)!
Love exploring Lands End - nice newish visitor center to get out of the wind for a few minutes. Lovely gift shop with historic/natural factoids throughout. Watched hawks hunt and soar. They have removed many of the gum trees and it really made a difference to the feel of the area.
You must plan to watch the sunset, even if it is cold and you need to sit in your car. It is worth it. Be bathroom prepared though, the one close by was closed at that time.
A wonderful, moderate hike of a couple miles along the western end of the City through groves of eucalyptus and many other flora. The views of the entrance to San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge are some of the best you can get. As a consequence, its popularity has increased more than ever. Take your family/friends along with a good camera and enjoy!
We parked out car at Lands End Lookout Visitor Center (it was difficult to find a parking spot and we had to go around couple of times) and walked till Eagles Point. Its about 3.2 miles round trip and moderately strenuous with lot of stairs to climb and descend. But the views are totally worth it. This is now my favorite spot in San Francisco.
This place offers beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge. There is a wonderful Visitor's Center that has a gift shop and several photos and relics from days past, which were very interesting. There are easy hiking trails that take you to beautiful vistas. Parking can be an issue, but with a little patience, we were able to grab a spot in not too much time. This is a great place to admire the natural surroundings of the city.
Loved taking the free tourist bus through Presidio, then walking to Lands' End and through some lovely residential areas.
The bookstore is great if you like history. The trails are nice. I once was surprised by an otter in the pond where the old foundation of the swimming pool/ice rink was. This time it was ducks and other sea birds.
Most photos you see are from the city side, this gives you a view from the other side. Nice walking trails along the top pf the bluffs
The Lands End trail is so beautiful to hike-- with plenty of views of the ocean and San Francisco bay and nice open trails surrounded by beautiful nature. Depending on which way you follow the trail there can be some steps so make sure to wear good hiking shoes if you plan to walk awhile or do most of the trail. It's possible to take the trail down to the Palace of Fine Arts or walk off the trail and head to Ocean Beach and the zoo.
This is one of best hiking place in bay area. You can walk/run/bike on next to ocean. There is beach near by called Cliff House Beach. I would recommend to park you car (ample parking available) and hike to GGB. (it is 3 miles one way). This can be great outing for day. While hiking towards GGB you can spend some time at Baker Beach and checkout some expensive houses at 25th and Ocean :) It is easily 3-5 hr outing.
