San Francisc...
Took the cable car to museum. Amazing is the only word I can use and it's FREE. Would be helpful if there were people to explain what we are seeing.
Allow an hour or two to look around and read about the history and operations of the cable cars. There is also a good section on the 1906 earthquake. I've been several times (every time I go to SF) and I always learn something new. There is a nice little cafe across the street for a refreshing cup afterwards too and then you can pick up a cable car for your onward journey. You did get a Muni pass didn't you? They are for 1,2,3 or 7 days and are fabulous value.
Nothing spectacular but nice to see the history of Cable car in San Francisco. Also good for students to visit.
What an interesting museum! Small museum with educational displays and lots of info that is intriguing. Ding, ding!
Happened upon the cable car museum on a return from a walk from downtown to Fisherman's Wharf. It was fascinating to see the cables which power the cars actually working and learn something about the history of cable cars. It is an amazing feat of engineering. Recommended.
This museum shows how the cable car system works, very interesting. You can see the cables going over huge pulleys; this is the heart of the system. The power house, repair shops, in addition to a lot of historical info. My only regret, we got there 45 minutes before closing. I'd suggest allowing at least 2 hours to take it all in.
A small but informative museum that answers all your wonderings about the absolutly coolest "trains" in the World - The Cable Cars.Lovely!
We were looking for a place to visit later in the afternoon, so since it is close to the China Town we choose to check it out, So glad we did, its fascinating to actually see how these gorgeous cable cars actually work and the history behind them and the city as well.Worth the stop.
Ride the cable car, visit the museum and then ride the cable car again! It'll give you quite an appreciation for the transit system and the proud people who run it.
