We only had one night in transit on a ship & chose the SFO Symphony as our escape from the ship for the night. Superb playing. Certainly a night to remember. Their home is an appealing venue & has excellent viewing angles. The programme was Bach & Mozart & was most satisfying. We took a tram from the pier to concert hall. Easy & inexpensive. Recommended.
What a deal, $40 a piece for the best seats....informal, great music, and watching he creative process unfold i magic.Herbert Blomstedt conducted Sibelius that brought joy to our hearts and tears to our eyes, and that was topped off with Mozart, Peter Serkin on the piano.
One of the best symphony's in America, if not the world. We are so fortunate here in San Francisco, to have such a world class symphony at our feet. Michael Tiltin Thomas, our conductor is a fabulous director and conductor. DO NOT miss an opportunity to hear them.
Visiting the symphony and seeing a play in SF should be on everyone's list. The venues are fantastic and the experience is memorable.
What a disappointment... For years they have entertained a party concept. With great music, party decorations, and free flowing champagne at the intermission. At the end there was always again, champagne, snacks for an hour, and balloons. Not so this year. The program started at 8:00 instead of 9:00PM and we were out of there by 10:00PM, with no other place to celebrate the New Year.We sat in the Terrace section and had good seats to view the orchestra, but there was a singer that we could not understand as she projected to the seated audience in front. We felt at a loss. The symphony was great as always, but not a New Year's celebration and very expensive ($135) for a 2 hour show.We won't spend that type of money again...
a beautiful experience. The acoustics are very good, not the best in the world, but very good. I prefer the seats where you can see more of the orchestra. If you sit to close to the stage, the sound feels a bit distorted. The venue is lovely. If you can, go early and get a drink in the grand foyer overlooking San Francisco before the show. It's beautiful.
The room is fantastic. The symphony is spectacular. They always pick great selections and guest. I love this place.
but i DID see a rickie lee jones concert here...great experience, talking about the venue, itself...not a bad seat in the house...great acoustics. clean bathrooms. just not enough graffiti...; - )
Lucky enough to catch Jayne Glover conducting Messiah. Orchetre really top notch as was the SFS Chorous. Soloists so so - wonderful Davies Hall really great auditorium.
While recently in San Francisco for Christmas we were lucky to see a Charlie Brown Christmas ~ the building is beautiful beyond description. A most beautiful and very affordable experience. This will be something I do again ~ a memory that will last a lifetime.
I'm a subscriber so attend regularly. Programs are wonderful especially the SF chorus. All soloists are great to hear. One can sit in variety of locations at different prices and enjoy it. The Davies Symphony Hall must be seen.
Symphony was perfect ... again. The SF symphony is world class. Conductor the best. Cannot get enough of them. And they keep coming up with such innovative programs.
A beautiful theater located in the Civic Center, Gabriel Faure's Requiem conducted by Charles Dutoit
