Free shuttle from Loews made this easy to access. Great for kids and walking on the beach. This is a natural beach.
I reviewed this beach but didn't check the review..instead of the most beautiful beach in San Diego it came out foul! Lol My apologies! Blame spell check..this is the most beautiful beach in California or anywhere that I've ever been!
safe area for kids to play in the water, good, easy parking and play equipment. Awesome view of the bridge from the beach
My husband and I visited San Diego for the first time this past November. We spent a week in California (started in San Fran, then LA, and finally San Diego). Walking on the ocean side of Silver Strand Beach at sunset was one of the most memorable moments of our whole vacation! It was pretty much just the two of us, aside from the occasional family or couple passing in the other direction. It felt like the sunset was just for us. Not only was it romantic, but finding seashells and sand dollars along the way was so fun. We got amazing photos while we were there as well. My only tip would be to bring a sweater or jacket along with you. We're from Buffalo, NY so we are used to being cold, but I was not expecting it to be so chilly once the sun went down. My capris were wet from walking on the beach and there was no way to dry them. Also, all of the bathrooms and foot-washing stations were inoperable due to construction, so we were a little uncomfortable during the hour-long ride back to our hotel with cold, wet pant legs and sandy feet. That being said, it was still totally worth it. If I know anyone who is planning on visiting San Diego, I tell them that they MUST check out Silver Strand Beach at sunset!
Fantastic way to see the ocean and downtown San Diego. We highly recommend bringing your bike or renting one if you stay on Coronado Island. Safe and easy route along the Strand to ride, then vary your route back through the quaint side streets or along the parks!
family friendly. easy access, safe area watch out for rocks if there have been recent storms. Good memories.
Rented bikes and rode along the bike trails. Uncrowded with a great beach to enjoy along with views of the Pacific on one side and San Diego on the other.
Less than 5 miles away from the more-frequented beach at the famous Hotel del Coronado, the Silver Strand Beach offers an equally scenic beach. With only a handful of visitors it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. Parking at the on-site lot with an automated credit- or cash-accepting machine was only $2 per hour with a daily maximum of $10. We noted a few visitors collecting some of the shells and sand dollars that littered the beach. I believe there were bathroom facilities, but we did not use them.
This is a beautiful sandy beach with miles for walking, watching the ships come and go out of the Naval shipyards. Found quite a few sand dollars and some other small shells. Can't beat the light breeze off the ocean on a warm day.
Worth the drive to stop at Silver Strand, shorter walk from parking to the water's edge than the beach north of the Hotel Del.
We especially enjoyed the 1.5 mile Bay side Nature Trail along the Silver Strand bikeway. Park at the Fiddler's Cove Marina (at the northern end) and you'll see the beginning of the trail.
The beach is nice but the best part is there is a paved path that goes along the road for several miles. It's a great place to go for a walk or a run and there were also a lot of people biking.
Another beautiful Coronado beach. We went during the week in the morning and there was hardly anyone there. It's definitely less crowded than the Coronado Municipal Beach down the road. It also isn't overshadowed by hotels and apartment complexes. The sand seems to shimmer with gold in the sun and the waves are consistent but not overpowering. The beach was really clean and there were decent facilities. The one thing we didn't like was that we had to pay a full day rate to park even though we were only going to be there for a half hour walk. There was no attendant to speak with, so we just paid the rate.
Stayed with relatives in the RV park. Nice beach, beautiful sunsets. Problem is they close the gates at 7pm. You need to take a cab to town if you want to eat dinner unless you plan on coming back early. If you take a cab, you still face a 1/2 mile walk to get to the RV section from the front gate.
The beach has a trail that goes many miles and is flat. We used this as our before/after running track for the San Diego Holiday Half Marathon (December 28). We will use this in the future! It makes you feel successful while a clear path is given to cyclists and runners alike.
