We dropped off one car at the Boy Scout Trailhead and drove the other to the start near Indian Cove. The almost-8-mile hike was a great way to spend a morning, traversing from the desert lowlands through the rocky canyons and then finishing in the heart of Joshua Tree. A nice little climb, too.
This is an easy trail that wanders by the Wonderland of Rocks. There is so much of the beauty of the desert readily apparent along the trail. Every foot of the trail is surrounding by cacti and other vegetation. There are birds singing everywhere. We made camp on the side of the trail opposite the Wonderland of Rocks, behind another pile of rocks. The evening was stunningly gorgeous with amazing sunset views and millions of stars.
My wife and I love hiking this trail in Joshua Tree. The geological formations all around you just take your breath away. In the spring time you will see the most amazing flower blooms from this area. You can spend the whole day exploring around the trail. Expect to find yourself and different areas on this trail from flat areas to rocky washed out areas. The only scare that we had was a rattlesnake in a bush by the trail that scared us really bad with its warning rattle. I love these snakes so much more for having a great warning device to stay away! Epic hike that I cant wait to do again.
It's an 8-mile descent from them heartland of Joshua Tree do close to 49 Palms. A truly astonishing walk, the geography and geology appears ever-changing. Sometimes you are in a flat desert, the next in your own personal canyon, the next in a wash.It was also utterly deserted.More beautiful than the Milford Track.
