There were so many great review on Trip Advisor for this place, we decided to try it; plus, who doesn't want to visit a castle? I was a little concerned by the obvious tourists (rather than "wine drinkers") but we kept going, past all the farm animals and crowing roosters. I liked the sheep, ostrich, peacocks, etc, but at a winery? Hmmm. Anyway, it costs $20 per person for "admission" and you do get to see some of the castle, which really is spectacular. The tasting room(s) is chocked full of all sorts of gifts and things, which again I found different for a winery. Tons of people at the tasting bar, and we were set up by the pourer. I found the pinot grigio to be actually sweet. The pourer told me - Oh, but that is just fruit forward. No, it was actually sweet. I know the difference. The wines were not good and really overpriced for what they are. The red blend was good, but otherwise, this is not the place for good wine. If you like sweeter wines, they you will be okay. Would not recommend for any serious wine drinkers.
If you don't see this while in Napa you are missing out. Everyone was so friendly and the castle is BEAUTIFUL! Mark was an amazing guide who was full of a ton of knowledge! Wine was delicious :)!
First off - if you don't do a tour - your missing out! Winery & castle are beautiful and it's important you hear the story of the wine and the building. We come here every time we are in the area and love every minute. If you like a big Italian red - this is the place. And we always have the Pinot grigio for a hot summer day. Looking forward to attending a Pagan Ball!!
The castle is absolutely breathtaking! Our tour guide Chris M. was great, very knowledgeable and so funny! The wines were also great, especially Fantasia!!!
This is a fun place to visit while in Napa area. The castle is grand and fun to explore, the views from its towers are spectacular (on a clear day), and your picture taking opportunities are endless! The petting zoo is something your entire family will enjoy! We bought just the regular admission this time around, but I recommend a guided tour for your first time there. The winery is OK, but overpriced. You will get a 5 wines tasting with your general admission, but in my opinion, this place is not about the wine, but about the setting the majestic castle experience.
This was a great place, the tour was really good. They hostess was very informative of how the castle was built. I loved that the wine tasting was down in the dungeon!! The wine was very good and we took several bottles home!! You will love this winery ...Take the tour it is GREAT!!! The grounds are beautiful.
We visited the castle and took the 10 am guided premium tour and tasting ($35/per person) (1.5 hours). Our guide was very informative and took his time showing us the grounds. You got to see the various levels of the castle, wine caves where the wine is stored and where the wine is made. We got a wine barrel tasting and then at the end of the castle tour, tasted 10 wines ( 5 each). We weren't impressed with the wine but thought the tour was worth the cost. The castle was a good reproduction of Tuscan castles. Outside are numerous animals and beatiful views. After this stop we proceeded to the petrified forrest and then the geyser. Made for a great day of sightseeing.
We visited this place last summer. It is a bit of a tourist trap, but we nontheless had a very enjoyable afternoon. The grounds are very picturesque, with small farm animals all about. The wine testing session was really not informative, as our sommellier was somewhat arrogant and the wine was not as good as previous places we had tried. I would not go back.
