Great place to visit either solo or with family and friends! The aquarium is like no other and absolutely worth a drive just to visit. Be sure to give yourself at least 3-4 hours to take in all the areas inside and out. The town itself is also a great stroll about so enjoy!
The Monterey Bay is the most beautiful piece of coastline in California. The weather is beautiful, the views and beaches are breath taking.
Monterey Bay never disappoints. There is so much nature to see and experience. Next time, we want to go back for the biking, hiking, and nurture trails that are now available, but were not available 20 years ago. Like Grand Canyon, it is never the same colors or views.
My children loved the displays. Great variety of fish. Some very unusual fish, jellyfish, sea horses, etc. The can run around and you can still keep an eye on them.
Monterey Bay is lovely - beautiful setting. Busy and crowded around Fisherman's Wharf but many quiet and lovely spots for walking or just enjoying the ocean.
Best aquarium I have visited. A bit spending but worth every penny. Very family friendly. Helpful docents standing in all the right places. Could be overwhelming for small children. Give yourself at least 2.5 hours to see it.
You name it...it's here. Restaurants, shopping, hotels, whale watching, marina, two wharfs. Great place to visit, and work.
We live in the area. Sure the cost of living is high and in some ways it's a sleeper peninsula. However you can't beat the nature and really in this area isn't that the main attraction. I am so thankful just to be able to look at the beauty of the peninsula as I drive on hwy 1 (don't worry, I am mostly looking at the road).
This was just awesome location for pleasant breeze and a bunch of pics. If you are photograher lover you would enjoy the place a lot
I have been here every month of the year. I the fall the kelp gives off a smell (kind of reminded me of Boston, with the cranberries). Lovers Point,Pacific Grove,Historic Monterey, Carmel, Carmel valley with so many funky mom and pop restraunts (not snooty at all), however, many don't take credit cards. This city and surrounding areas can be expensive if you don't go about it the right way. Tuesday nights, Alvarado Street shuts down at 4pm and becomes a wonderland for people watching, arts and crafts, and the tastiest food ever. My favorite is fried calamari about $8, so delicious. Yes, I know it's available in say, New York city...but try it here, fresh at the ocean. Also, they have whale watching boat tours, but I have seen a pod of orcas (the wolves of the ocean), in eyesight, swimming and feeding right off of Lover's pointfi in Pacific Grove. All of locals were watching this event, this includes waters and cooks from the eatery across the street from the beach !Children will love Dennis The Menace park. It has so much to offer, allow a couple of hours. If you need a snack, on the weekends there is a snack shop open. Good parking here. This is where all of the locals take their children. They have a safe bridge that may remind you of Raiders of The Lost Ark, a huge train to climb all over, and fun places to play "hide and seek". Visitors Center is around the corner within walking distance. Also a McDonald's is just across the street from that. Have some fun memories, like my family has had for years :) u
We picked an absoulutely beautiful weekend to be in Monterey. The weather was springlike, the water in the bay very calm and clear and the sea lions and all the sea birds were very active. The overall bay is beautiful and the activities around the bay are numerous. Fishermans wharf and the sea lions are always fund and very much enjoyed by children.
One of the most scenic places in the world. I go there several times a month to paint. I love painting the ocean. I go all along the coast .One of my favorite places is point Lobos, it is absolutely beautiful!
walked around the wharf was an excellent day sunny and warm...there was an art festival going on nice things to see and items to buy...all free
