We have enjoyed playing this delightful golf course a number of times. With the higher altitude, one has to adapt a bit as the balls do soar. The views are gorgeous. Its a fun course to play. in the stunning Eastern Sierras.
What an amazing jewel of a course carved out of the forest...hence the jail comparison. BRING LOTS OF BALLS! or leave the driver in the car. Super well manicured. Lots of fun.
grass was lush, greens fast, scenery is the best as you list to the creeks and look at the Sierra Mountains. Once in awhile you may see a bear or deer. Pace of play can sometimes be slow. Golf staff is very helpful.
Sierra Star is a very scenic mountain course and surprisingly in great shape for a course with a four month season. The grounds keepers do a great job. The biggest challenge of the course is the undulating and fast greens. It is easy to be on in two and off in six ! Straight shots are a must as most fairways are narrow and lined by trees.
Really cool course! In town ( and still worlds away...) just off main corner south of Mammoth Gondola Village...!! Tee to green the course is pristine and very entertaining! Great greens for short season, nice staff, decent LITTLE PRACTICE AREA and NO RANGE...! VERY TOUGH TRACK, SEMI TIGHT DRIVING, 8K ELEV. WILL MESS WITH YOU! LOCALS CALL THIS "3 PUTT HELL" cause the greens are so o o fast & tough! Greens are soft enough to hold all my shots from lob wedge to 4 iron! ONLY REASON FOR THE 4 STAR NOT 5 IS NO WATER COOLERS ON EVERY 3rd or 4th TEE AND WATER AT THE 1 SNACK SHACK WAS $3...? REALLY...? Not a deal breaker for me tho, I'LL BE BACK! =)
I love the way the ball ravels at the high elevation. The course is absolutely stunning and more than likely you will run across wildlife. The cart girl is on the ball and pace is usually good. What else can you ask for?
Being a desert dweller, we don't get to play mountain golf very often, which made paying Sierra Star such a special experience. The course is gorgeous winding through pine forests and views of mountains all around. The greens were perfect. Balls fly far. Sand was powder soft. Temps in the low 80's. Couldn't have been better. I can't wait to go back!
First let's be honest and say that this course in under snow / closed for most of the year. With that being said, the quality is very good and the scenery and layout is beautiful. Mature trees, water, sand that runs into the lake, snow capped mountain views, bears on occasions, etc and this course is a joy and pleasure to play. It has multiple tee locations and with the narrow fairways, it always keeps you on your toes. Not an easy course to score well, unless you play is a lot and from the upper tees, but the views make it a must! Buy the annual pass and you will save money on the green fees. Don't miss this course!
There was a Sunday tournament so could only play on Monday - played at twilight rates $99 each - 11am. We lucked out and were able to go out 10 minutes earlier. The course was in great shape and the greens fun to play..we had our own GPS and that helped. Make sure you look at the pin book to see where the creeks, cart paths and out of bounds are. Worth the stop to play.
We have been playing golf at Sierra Star for years and LOVE it! If you're up in Mammoth during the summer months, bring your clubs and get out on the links here for sure! The course is great for all levels and because you're playing at altitude, swing the sticks and watch your ball fly a little bit further! The staff are great and Dave, the Club Pro is awesome. My husband gets me a lesson with him every now and then to perfect my swing - what a great coach!Even if you don't golf, this course is beautiful so grab a roadie and ride along!
Gorgeous golf course. Well maintained with amazing views and the occasional wild animal (bears & deer). Nice little pro shop and good food at the start or after 9 holes.
Came here because of the great reviews but was shocked to find the terrible condition of the course. Putting on the greens was like putting in the rough. Patchy and barren conditions created a bad experience for all four of us. The $125 fee should be discounted. Stay away until this course improves !
Come early in the summer to watch the deer, see bear live and wood carved while you golf
I never miss playing at sierra star in the summer. It is spectacular. Love the views, the trees, the lakes, the bears. A little expensive but worth it. Very good service. Food not that great - we usually bring our lunch.
Overcrouded and overpriced. The greens are always in average to below average conditions. Its just acceptable but it is a destination course so you have to play it. I much prefer playing Snow Creek twice. I will say the staff at Sierra is excellent.
