Ok course. Decent shape. Don't think it's worth $85 peak times, but oh well. I'd rather go further to Thousand Oaks for Tierra Rejada.
I've been to Malibu Country Club several times and love the challenges this course offers. The course is located high in the Malibu hills and it does get very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The best times to play are the spring or fall. Lots of rustic beauty, natural rock and boulder formations, a lake or two, multi elevation fairways and always be on the lookout for rattlesnakes and other wildlife (coyotes, bobcats, etc.) Unless you are in great shape, take a golf cart and plenty of balls!
Had an enjoyable round on a fun track. The course was in great shape and I was paired up with good company.
Course fairways are shot, the drought condition has taken its toll. It took 2.5 hrs. to play 9 holes so we left early. No ranger, we had to load our own bags and the starter (Roberto) had a tip jar, didn't bother moving from his seat. Don't waist your time playing here, Stirling Hills and Moorpark CC are much better golf courses and better run.
Great golf club un superb shape. All greens are rolling true and the course is lush. Food and drinks are also good.
Like the course. Secluded in a valley in the Malibu hills. Course greens are fast and challenging. Bring extra balls. Nice wine bar and pasta dish in restaraunt. Dressy casual vibe. Outdoor band on Sunday. Music floated up the fairways. Cool.
We played the Malibu Country Club today and had the pleasure of meeting Glen Campbell as he was about to tee off. He was very gracious and quite friendly. So, the $80.00 green fees did not seem so bad after this start, The greens a very fastand if you hit above the hole, add two strokes to your card. Most of the holes have elevated greens, so add a club to avoid the bunkers. The fairways are open and easy to hit, Some par fours are a little long, but fun. The par threes are longer than the card lists due to the elevation and bunkers, but very fair. We had a great day although the play was very, very slow. We played with a local and skipped 11-and 12 and avoided the stall.. then came back and finished in 4 and 1/2 hours; otherwise, 5 and 1/2 for sure. Again, meeting Glen Campbell made the day worth while in spite of my 89. Food is available to call in at the turn, no marshals to keep people moving.
Course was challenging for the 30 handicap golfer but coudln't have had a better time. IT was bit pricey at $75 a head, but hey it was vacation. Greens were brutal, hard to read, not a flat spot on them!
Disappointing experience. The golf cart power is tied in with the added-on GPS and ours died repeatedly on the back nine when the GPS shut down. Need to have visible yardage markers on the course, not just on the carts - I walk the fairways when it is cart path only (front nine due to frost) Not fun! There were too many forced carries over water or weed-filled waste areas from the forward tees and the ninth hole. Shots took odd bounces from bumps in the fairways which were not in the best of shape since the grass went dormant due to cold weather. Even the par-3s were long. Golf card was gold and made it very hard to read the tiny tone on tone yardages when the GPS died. Fun part was the false fronts that boomerang your chips up to the greens right back at ya! We did get a deal on GolfNow ($55 before 8 AM weekday with cart) so they got two stars but won't be back anytime soon. Course is located in a canyon not near the ocean and could get very hot in the summer. Pretty drive along highway 1 and through the green hills in February. There are better weekday deals out there for nicer courses. Definitely a course for serious golfers that can accurately place long shots.
We joined online, but it was $65 each on a Sunday afternoon (rack rate $100). Three stars for this visit; it would be 4 stars, but for the greens not being in the best shape (ok, but not great), no driving range (just the nets & not well done), and no cart beverage service on the back nine (only once on front). They did have some coolers with bottled water, but the ice was melted and water barely cool. Course is completely isolated in the Malibu hills, you barely see any homes or other structures as you play. It's challenging and hilly enough to be fun, but not drive you crazy. Not a walking course....you need the carts, which do have GPS. The group in front of us was two holes behind by 14, and there are no marshals to speed them up. There's a restaurant, and there was live music playing while we were out on the course - not sure if that's a regular thing or was a private party, but if it's standard Sunday fare, it could make a nice end to a round if you time it right. We'll probably go back for the right deal, and for a nice change of pace from the typical SoCal play.
The course layout is great but sometimes the conditions are a bit funky. If you join their online club for free, they send specials of $55. for certin days of the week. On hole # 9 I once saw a golden eagle take a fish out of the large pond. Deer, rabbits and coyotes are other common sights. Try it, you'll like it!
Having played this course for maybe 15 years, it's pretty much the same course it's always been. Lot of ups, downs, and sideways. And that's the tee-boxes!!!! They have raised the weekend rates to $100 so maybe that's why the weekend attendance seems a bit down. But the course and all the facilities are in great shape. Staff is to be commended for having to deal with so many customers in the "business". Lots of egos to deal with. Sneak up during the week for a real nice round and maybe drinks afterwards watching the stragglers come in.
Malibu Country Club is located in a small valley on top of the hills just north of Malibu. Though hilly, it is not a "mountain goat" course. The holes are very scenic and well framed. Most fairways are below the tee while most greens are above the fairway. The course is not especially long or tight, though you can certainly get into trouble. What makes the course hard is the diabolical greens. Lots of slope. The price is a bit steep. $75 rack rate. $55 twilight. $60 for seniors. Didn't find any discount deals. Pace of play was a bit over 4 hours.
