The food at this casino is not very good. The breakfast buffet has very little on it and lots of times there is not enough staff to keep things very clean around the buffet tables. The buffet itself is actually a big disappointment as the food is a large part of the "casino experience" when travellers go for over night or a couple of days. There are times when it even seems to be an inconvenience to the staff that they have cusotmers in the restaurant. There is no place else to eat in the area so there are no other options. The snack restaurant has limited items like pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, wings, etc. The casino itself is quite good but the pay outs on the slot machines are pretty bad compared to other casinos. The hotel part on the new side for the most part is pretty clean but we have stayed in rooms that the house keeping staff could be more diligent in keeping them in better shape -- especially for a new hotel.
This is a small casino but there is a good size hotel with it. The staff are very helpful and the food is good at the buffet. We found it to be clean and the rooms to be very nice, wow great beds. Ok, lets but this into perspective-- people this is not Vegas!!! If u want Vegas then go there, this is a small First Nation run casino, u can't compare these two places at all. Go with an open mind, be polite, smile and say thank you. It's a great place to go for a short over night get away and we found it to be lots of fun and very good. And for some good people watching, drop by DOTS liquor store in the town of Belcourt, it even has a liquor drive through line. We were in shock and had a good chuckle, but they have some great wine there too. It is fun to take in some of the local stops. Be brave...... Venture out. M and G
Was deeply disappointed at how they have let this beautiful casino get so run down looking! It was so dirty and smoky smelling that we had to leave. When they made the non smoking bar, they should have made the Casino non-smoking and that bar for smokers. They wouldn't have those dirty ashes all over the slots, chairs, floor, etc. and it would stay a lot cleaner. The best and cleanest casino in ND is 4 Bears, so keep up the good work!! They are Non-Smoking and their casino is always clean. They also have a great hotel and restaurants.
I stay in the area often for work and this is one of the only decent places to stay but I may have to go to the local hotel in Rolla for now on. The rooms there may look like I'm a hunter but at least the service is good. The remodel of the Casino (I use little) is actually nice. The new hotel looks great but I always have small problems (no hot water) that the hotel staff seems to care little of when I bring it up. Most recently I got in later (10pm) from work and was going to go on to 'Grillerz' for a late supper. Website said they were open until 12:30 - I called and they had closed at 9:30. Probably update your website to say 'open until we are closed'. Lazy - Lazy staff. Every time I'm here. I will not be staying, gambling at this property again.
Not one good restaurant in the whole place! Rooms are nice. Front desk very friendly. No shopping around hotel. Only thing to do is gamble.
I read lots of reviews online about the Sky Dancer Casino/hotel before I left for a business trip to Belcourt. I was preparing for unaccommodating staff and less than exceptional quality. What I received was the exact opposite. Everyone that I spoke with was helpful and friendly! The rooms were quite clean and made up well. The rooms were well priced and considerably modern. There were a few gripes about the wireless internet I heard from the front desk, but my personal experience was just fine, and I was streaming videos without a problem. I'm not sure if we just got lucky, or if the other reviewers were just stuck up or sensitive, but my stay at the Sky Dancer was a winner. Thanks again!
The staff are un-professional. Dirty rooms. Pay outs are the worst they must be paying fines. I heard they don't take care of their own people. What do they do with all the money they take in????
The staff all seemed to care less about their jobs. They never smiled, and were very unprofessional . Hiring local people is fine but they need to actually care about providing service and doing their job- this was not the case. Totally unlike the american hospitality I have seen before.
Skydancer is a nice casino resort. The rooms are decent, staff are pleasant and the restaurants are good. The casino comps you a lot of stuff like free play money and discounts. The only problem is that it is in the middle of nowhere.
I did not stay in the hotel, so I cannot comment on that. The casino is better than anything else I have seen in ND. It is relatively new, and has MANY machines, and you can smoke in there, which is a rarity for ND apparently. I enjoyed myself, and enjoyed donating my hard earned money :) We also ate at the buffet, Mikkasa or something close, sorry I do not remember. It was very good, but everyone is spot on with the service comments. The cashier seemed aloft and confused by the whole transaction. I never saw another server or anything, but it is completely self serve, including the drinks. The food was very good, and fresh. We were the first customers there for the dinner time, so I am biased, but everything was presented beautifully. I would certainly return if back in the area. It is about a 2 hour drive from Minot, but it is a very peaceful and nice country drive, no heavy traffic or anything. Overall, I give it an A+. I did encounter a worker in the casino area, and she was extremely friendly. The gift shop worker was not happy to be at work though. Maybe the service is just hit and miss.
I stayed in a block of three rooms with two colleagues -- were in the main (tower) part of the hotel that connects to the Casino. It wasn't clear when we were driving up where to park/check in and we ended up walking through a connecting, much-less impressive wing of the hotel that reeked of chlorine from an indoor pool and otherwise just didn't feel right. A woman at the front desk at this entrance let us know we went in the wrong way -- I hope these rooms aren't actually rented to guests but instead used as offices or rooms for employees or something.Once we went around to the main entrance, the facilities were much nicer. Our rooms looked pretty new and were well-appointed. Oddly, my thermostat was locked and I had to call the front desk for them to send someone up to fix, although to their credit they alerted us of this possibility at check-in. For being in such a rural county, with really no other lodging option this actually isn't' that bad of a choice. As others have said, they do have problems with the people who handle reservations and such. It seems like some staff is kind of indifferent -- not exactly customer-service focused.I was there for business and not the casino, but did check it out. I'd say it's pretty bare bones. Mostly slots and like six table games. The card room (more like a card alcove) is closed Tuesdays.
Stayed in the hotel because we were passing through and was pleasantly surprised. The room was beautiful. We had a suite with two queen beds and a pull-out sofa. There was a wet bar and a two room bath each with separate entrances. One had toilet and sink, the other shower and sink. The room was very comfortable except it took a longg time to get hot water. The casino however was very disappointing, very small and not even a roulette table. The Buffett was only ok.
During our recent stay the casino had a transformer blow in the early morning, and later the computer that runs the casino machines went down. We arrived at 2.30 pm and at that point the machines were already giving problems. This fact was not mentioned to us. So we began to play the slots. Everything worked fine until you pressed the cash out button. The machine immediatley gave the message Call attendant to hand collect funds. We asked attendants passing by who said , someone will be with you shortly. In fact we waited from3.00pm until 12.00am before someone showed up with our money. If you were not standing in front of the machine when the came to pay you out you waited for another two hours. The staff walked around as if they couldnt see you and when you stood in front of them and asked the question the standard answer was we will be with you in a few minutes. Not ONE person apologized for this NOR were we offered compensation in any way, Just totally ignored..
We visited this casino/resort twice, a week apart, as a stop over to a nearby music camp. The casino had a decent payout; better for us the second time. Both times we came out ahead. It wasn't crazy busy in the casino, so the smoke wasn't awful unless smokers moved in on the slots next to me. As for the hotel, we were concerned on our first visit by the noise we heard in the room; sounded like a very loud room fan. Turned out the casino air exchange fans were outside our room window. It wasn't too bad except for the movie we were watching was on the quiet side and we couldn't get the TV loud enough. Other channels weren't a problem. At night, the fans were a 'white noise' that didn't really bother us. My advice if you plan on staying in the room most of the time for the visit, don't stay in 311 or 313. Love the small adjustable reading lights. My daughter used it for her late night sewing, and it didn't bother me so I could sleep. Our second visit was a room a few doors away but on the same side. The view was better as we could see the hills past the casino roof. The exchange fans were visible but the noise was not a problem at all this time. Both rooms were identical; very comfortable beds, Keurig coffee maker, bed lights with adjustable reading lights, small frig., tv, etc. The temps could get a bit chilly in the room even after adjusting the thermostat. We found putting a towel at the bottom of the room door kept a big draft from coming in. The food was good but not always hot in the buffet (supper & breakfast). Breakfast included an omelet/egg grill (very tasty), and the routine breakfast items in the buffet. Coffee, OJ or milk (even for cereal) was brought to you and wait staff wasn't always timely with them. I went looking for cream and help surfaced quickly. The supper buffet had plenty of food and variety. We left very satisfied with each visit. The restaurant as excellent. We at about 7:30 p.m. so the wait staff was not too busy. The lobster bisque was excellent and highly recommended. My daughter commented favorably on her sweet tea. The bacon cheeseburger was huge and very good. The oriental salad wasn't quite what I'm used to but still very good and a large portion. We felt the wait staff was very pleasant and there when we needed her.I only used the room Wi-Fi via my Kindle but it worked every time I used it. We would stay here again as the rates were excellent. The same type of room in my local community would cost at least $30-$40 more and the beds aren't nearly as comfortable.
Rude staff, couldn't get our reservations correct, ended up canceling all our reservations and finding other accommodations. The entrance was clean and impressive, we never got any further then the front desk though.
