The most fascinating aspect of this site is the outside map showing all of the buildings that no longer sit on the site. The site could certainly benefit from additional effort to explain these buildings and their purposes, perhaps through a short trail across the grounds with explanatory placards. The remaining buildings are interesting, particularly the church, but that does not raise it above average as a site to visit, particularly if you have children in tow.

Enjoyed the do-it-yourself, free tour reading the placards. History abounded in the early settlement of Bismarck: the Northern Pacific Locomotive #2164, the Weather Station and the first non-Catholic church. A free museum inside the weather station.

If you like History, and get a feel of stepping back in time, take a moment to drive out to the south of mandan and learn and walk in the footsteps of the mandan indians as well as custers forts....good deal

Pros: Interesting history of the first settlement in the Bismarck area, with plenty of weather history as the site was used by the National Weather Service for around 45 years.Cons: Small, musty, and not run by anyone. Just walk in and read the signs. Only takes about 15-20 minutes to go through.

I was a nice visit to the begining of Bismarck with the church and a little museum. I was free to visit and there was a guide when we were there.
