Our family reunion had several groups take advantage of the trail rides and the beautiful Badlands. The guides were fantastic.
We're not experienced riders so I was pleased to see how careful the wranglers were in selecting just the right horse for the rider. If you have experience riding and want the freedom of going where you want this isn't for you but if you're looking for a relaxing ride through the rugged terrain around Medora, I would recommend you check it out. They offer one hour trail rides as well as 2 and possible 3 hours rides as well. One hour was just enough for us as the heat of the day was starting to come upon us. The price was reasonable and the horses were very well mannered and cared for.
Wonderful trip on well-trained horses. Staff were out-going, helpful, extremely friendly. Special care for safety. Love it!
My son and I took a 1 hr ride. This was the first time riding horses for both of us. The horses were gentle, always walked and were a delight to ride. Our guide, Wendy was awesome. She made sure we were all comfortable and coming along ok. She told us about the things we were seeing. She was personable and very nice! We will definitely do this next time we come to Medora!
We booked the day before and they were very organized when we got there. The person leading the trail ride was very knowledgable and personable. The were very accomodating when we asked if they would take pictures of us on our horses. The cost was reasonable.
This trail is a lot more rough than others I have been on. Lots of hills; however, gorgeous scenery. The horses are great and the guides superb. I am very sore though 2 day later. Just keep that in mind before you go.The guides were wonderful because after I got off my horse, due to the heat, I got sick and they brought me water and electrolyte pills. They were wonderful and I had a great horse! Definitely worth a try.
we ride at the stables everytime we visit Medora, The horses are well trained, and the guides are very friendly, the trails are nice and the views are beautiful. the only thing I would suggest they do differently is to get a mounting block, it would be so much easier on the horses back and guests too! I have rheumatoid arthritis so some days its hard mount from the ground, it would also make it easier on the guides they wouldn't have to "lift" people into the saddle!
I am not a horse person. The last time I was on a horse was 30 years and 100 pounds (less) ago. The staff was awesome, helping hoist me up on a very gentle and agreeable horse. This was the one of the best hours spent in Medora in a long time. Friendly, helpful staff. Great horses. FUN!!!
We went on a 2 hour trail ride. The horses are very calm and fun to ride. The scenery was breath taking and we even rode amongst the black angus cattle that were grazing in the grasslands. The young trail guide from Minneapolis was very friendly and informative about Medora.
We did not ride the horses this go 'round, but we did approximately 5 years ago with our kids, and it was a blast! The guide was great in making sure we were humbly confident and that we stuck together. The path we took was serene! My daughter and I plan on doing this again next time we visit.
We took the one hour trail ride and enjoyed it. It was a great length and price. Our guide was knowledgable and the horses were great.
My wife and I went on the one hour trail ride. We are not experienced horse people but we had a great time. Even with the limited time, we were able to get back in the badlands and were able to imagine what it was like in the old days. The horses are very gentle.
Enjoyed this very much, did the three hour ride. The horses looked well cared for, we're well mannered and trail savvy. It was a very small group of experienced riders with a guide who didn't hover excessively!
We are not experienced horse riders! The horses here are very gentle and easy to ride for even a young child. Our children have enjoyed visiting the stables every year we visit Medora and always enjoy the ride. The guides are close by at all times if help is needed for any reason (stubborn horse that wants to stop and graze) and they are always ready to strike up a conversation. The one hour ride is perfect for the novice rider - long enough to be enjoyable but not so long that you will feel it for days:) Don't pass up this fun experience while you are in Medora!!
Whenever you go to Medora, we take a trail ride with this outfit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the horses are great.
