This market is in a lovely Antique train depot location. The weather in Anacortes during the summer was gorgeous so I had quite a delightful days visit.Lots of local organic foods and treats and some very talented artisans ! I totally loved the unique goods there.
What I like about AFM is it has a nice stage with one artist playing instead of many "busters" around. They have a great food court. Wish they had more hot food items. And the best part...the Dogs. I love see all the four legged friends.
If you really want to "Experience Local" you must visit farmers markets! I first started coming for the crafts as gifts but quickly got hooked on all aspects of this awesome market. The fresh produce (berries!), bread, cheese, pasta etc is just the tip of the iceberg, with up to 75 vendors in the summertime. Enjoy the music, the historic setting, the food and most important of all, the people. Located between downtown and the marina it's a beautiful and easy walk for the family too. Give yourself lots of time, you'll be glad you did!
Local farmers, artisans, and food booths all make for an enjoyable hour or so at the Farmers Market. You must have one of Jalilla's scones and you will want to check out the jewelry made by Laura. Locally grown produce is fresh and organic. Of course, the jalapeño and cheddar kettle corn can't be ignored!
Recommended to visit market by employees at Anacortes Ferry, stopped in not expecting too much but was overwhelmed with crafts and creativity, not to mention the friendliness of the vendors. It very much felt like a community I had long grown up in. Highlight was local brick oven pizzeria who served an amazing pie with bacon, caramelized onions, goat cheese, olives, kale and honey. Local artists and crafts are on display. Fresh food and baked goods on site and available. We purchased several blocked of cheese and a few demis for day trip to San Juan, great choice.
Farmer's Markets are so commonplace today that competition is fierce when we begin to compare one against another. The fact is, though, Farmer's Markets are designed to showcase the local flavor (literally) and culture. The Anacortes Farmer's Market certainly does that. It is small, but the quality of the food is unmatched. Absolutely worth a stroll through on any given Saturday (when in season).
I explored the market and the entire town. Awesome people and conversation and......fresh non GMO food!!!!
From May until October, I look forward to my Saturday's shopping at our local Farmer's Market. I love the variety of vendors, the music, the food booths, and especially the bakery booths. I almost always run into someone I have not seen in a while. It is a great venue to meet friends, shop, and listen to live music. The atmosphere could not be more inviting.
