The grounds and tasting room of this winery are beautiful. The tasting room is very old in appearance, and looks like a French chateau. It was a bit dark inside though. Dark carpet, dark wood and dim lighting. I prefer the sunny, bright atmosphere, but to each their own. The staff were not overly friendly, but answered our questions when we asked. There is an upstairs to the chateau, which we found out are the old wine makers living quarters. Pretty cool! The wine was decent, but not great.
Many reviewers had already mentioned the beautiful grounds, right from the entrance with the grape vines and lavender. The French Chateau style tasting room opens to a nice courtyard with fountains and paver paths, overlooking the beautiful vineyards. It is tucked away from road traffic. When we visited in the summer, many flowers were in bloom. The tasting room is very grand, furnished with great furniture and a baby grand piano. Visit early in the morning so they are not so busy and get a tour of the grounds. The staff is very friendly, unless there is a tour bus rolling through here. When this is busy, the tasting experience will be diminished. The $5 non refundable tasting fee (not even with purchase) is kind of unusual for this part of the wine country. Normally they waive the fee if you purchase wine. Our host was quite generous with his pours, we got to try 6 different types of wine.Obviously wine tasting is very personal, everyone has his/her own likings and dislikes. Our group thought the syrah and red blend were note worthy, however, not worth the $$ they were asking for. We purchased nothing from here.We will definitely be back here, especially on a nice summer day, to enjoy the beautiful view, garden, and their wine. $6 by the glass.
Wow was this winery gorgeous and very upscale. We loved walking through the various grape vines, enjoyed the pond, bridge, and organic garden, and yes the wines. I love reds and this is the area for that. But as with a few other of the wineries we visited we were really blown away by the beauty of the wineries and the grandness of them which we have not experienced in our neck of the woods in the willamette and hood river valley wineries. Love the merlots in this area. The wines here were good but nothing shined for us.
In addition to a courteous tasting room staff and a very good tasting experience you can enjoy the experience of a beautiful location. "Elegant in the European style" describes the Hedges winery and tasting room location. Their grounds are immaculate and beautifully landscaped. The view from the grounds can be enjoyed from tables beneath trees and in the midst of beautiful gardens. A glass of their very good wine will add the perfect touch to your experience of pleasure to make your visit a most memorable one.
Do yourself a favor and head to Hedges Cellars at Red Mountain. As you drive up the lavender lined lane you approach the tasting room and grapevines, ponds and flower gardens. The grounds and gardens are amazing and the Hedges Family is happy to show you around. The tasting room is delightful and in a French Chateau, complete with chandeliers and outside wine tasting areas with amazing views. Now of course, if you are reading this, then you are interested in the wine...and it is delightful! I am actually writing this for my esteemed son in law who spent an lovely day painting landscapes at this winery with the Hedges family as his hosts..and he reports the wines are worth the visit! You may know Hedges as the creators of CMS wines, but their other wines are even better. Try the 2006 red blend...he raved about it. The other thing he loved about it was how friendly the staff was ...happy to have him there, helpful, and it was obvious that they were proud of their product. Go lift a glass...you'll be happy you did! Thank you, Hedges, for a great day!
Don't be discouraged by the faux chateau exterior. Once inside the big, heavy doors the odor of vintage wine and the dark wood interior will transport you. The people are knowledgeable and gracious. And the wines are damn good.
Very beautiful grounds, Alex Hedges was a very nice young man and he even signed the bottle that I bought. Great time.
A must stop on your wine tour in Yakima County, WA.
This was by far the best tasting we have experienced. The staff was warm and extremely knowledgable. There wasn't a weak wine in the flight. Have always been a Hedges fan and they did not disappoint.
Knowledgeable people making goo/great wine. There are limited choices to try.
And the facilities are beautiful! I love the Red Mountain Wine Tour. So many nice wineries out that way.
Gorgeous grounds & delicious wines. Highly recommend!!!
These guys are pretty consistently snooty. And their wine certainly doesn't measure up to where they think it is. Their building's a beautiful sight. But I'd advise spending your time and money at some of the other Red Mountain wineries and bypassing this one. Try Kiona, Tapteil or Sandhill.
