We did the trail hike of the Sol Duc Falls. I love hiking but am out of shape and this hike .8 miles each way, was fairly easy. They do need to clear all the fallen trees off the trail though. Tip: Avoid the restrooms if you can. So gross. The falls are gorgeous and well worth the hike. Be sure to wear something waterproof if you are going to the bridge over the falls. It's slippery and the falls get you fairly damp. Would definitely recommend. Tip: Bring cash if you're going. It's 15 dollars for the day per vehicle.
Well there was absolutely no one in the park while we were there it was still a little disappointing to see trees down everywhere in the road and many on the trail to Sol Duc falls they have some massive cleanup to do before spring if you're headed there in the next couple months be prepared to go over under through trees limbs and other debris and of course no dogs on the hike...boooo
It's a must hike. The trail is easy and well marked. If you could just bottle the scent of the forest you could make a fortune, there is nothing like it! Lots of little bubbling streams on the way to the falls. It's very peaceful. The falls itself has a walking bridge to stand on and watch the falls. It's worth the hike.
We went to the Hot Springs, did not partake but enjoyed the beautiful drive. Be sure to view the Salmon Cascades
We did 2 hikes here in Sol Duc - first short .5 mile hike as driving in the view the Ancient Path with HUGE trees over 700 years old. I kept waiting for a dinosaur to peek out from behind these giants. This is one of my all time favorites and Thank God the Loggers haven't gotten to it.
We were disappointed in Sol Duc. We expected a natural setting which it was definitely not. It was just swimming pools with the hot springs water in them. We did not stay.
Hot springs were neither hot nor particularly beautiful. The surrounding mountains are pleasant but otherwise the facility itself was uninspired.
The Hot Spring is warm at best, unless you get to sit around the center fountain. It is quite crowded during weekends.
Enjoyed the trails, hot springs. Very pleasant experience. A place to go with your partner or with the family. Great food and beautiful sunny day added icing to the cake.
WE had a very nice senic hike to this waterfall. The waterfall itself is execellant. This is a rainforest. The views are amazing.
We loved the falls and thought it was worth the walk. It was one of the prettiest falls that we saw.
Hiked to the falls via lovers lane trail. had the trail to ourselves until we got to the falls, there is parking close to the falls if you do not want to hike.
We have been here twice! We really like the hot springs! Try not to book your stay on the weekends...the hot springs gets crazy busy with day visitors on the weekends! Two great hikes in the area are Lovers Lane trail from the Hot Springs parking lot to Sol Duc Falls...6 miles round trip. Another hike is to Mink Lake...around 6 miles round trip with a lot more elevation gain.
Okay, so you're wanting to visit Olympic National Park but there are like a million things to do and see that all look amazing. If you're debating between Sol Duc and the Hoh Rainforest, definitely go with Sol Duc. The Hoh Rainforest was pretty, but once we got to Sol Duc, we realized that we were seeing everything that the Hoh Rainforest had to offer plus SO much more. The falls are just amazing! Don't make the mistake of thinking that the water falling over the rocks are the falls, KEEP GOING. We noticed a lot of parties doing stopping and then turning around. Keep walking until you see the real falls, which you can see pictured above. We did this hike with our four year old daughter on foot and our 10 month old in the Ergo. Everyone did great and really enjoyed it.
The Sol Duc was so unique at wonderful. The soaking pools are about 104 and we got there when the first opened as we wanted to soak in our own water. If you arrive after 11 you may be soaking in 50 to 100 peoples water
