Great place to bring your kids especially if you want them to really learn about the Lewis & Clark expedition. The walls have the time line of the expedition on it with items to look at, touch and play with along the path. The upstairs has amazing views to the mouth of the Columbia river, where you can watch the bald eagle's soaring and the ships fighting their way into the river. This is a National Park, located inside of the State Park.
While on our way to Long Beach, we decided to take a side trip to the little fishing town of Ilwaco. We drove down to the docks and enjoyed seeing some of the fishing fleet there and ended up following signs to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center. (Watch for signs for special handicap parking as well as access to the center if this is a necessity for you.) The center is nestled on a bit of a bluff among the trees and over looks the majestic beauty of the Pacific below. The facility is beautifully done and is a great way to spend a couple of hours - especially if you find yourself entertaining little ones on a rainy afternoon! The view of ocean and lighthouse are definitely worth the price of admission!
A beautiful facility with interactive exhibits. The information will give the entire family a lesson in Lewis & Clark expedition. The minimal parking fee (without State Park Day Pass) and exhibit entry fee ($5 per adult) is well worth the visit. Add the view and lighthouse and you have an experience not yo be missed!
Great for the whole family. Pictures, explanations, hand inscribed maps, exhibits of the entire Lewis & Clark expedition to reach the Pacific Ocean via rivers & over land. Really well done. Particularly interesting to see an actual half size canoe carved out of tree and envision an object twice its size being hauled over mountains and snow in thin soled moccasins, plus the numerous interactions with various indian tribes along the way. Definitely worth the diversion from a trip up/down Highway 101.
Hier kann man sehr viel über Lewis und Clark und ihre lange Expiditon zum Pazifik erfahren. Der kleine Shop bietet nette Souvenirs.
