Having carted at a number of other tracks, I would have to give this an "average" rating. The computerized check in system, and quality of the carts were both above my expectations. The wait time was quite lengthy though. We arrived ready to race early on a Saturday afternoon and had to leave and come back at about 8PM for the first available time slot. I also found the track to be a bit shorter than other tracks that I have carted on.
This review needs to be put into two parts: The fun time had by those who raced and the bad time had because of hidden rules. Because I think the bad is something that should be addressed and could be easily remedied, let's start with the bad.We hosted my son's 13th B-Day party on K1 Speed in Redmond. The facility is nice, clean and the staff do their best. Knowing that this facility does not have Junior Carts, we researched the height requirements for all participants (58") on the website, went to the facility to see if there is a height measuring station (there is) and made sure all invitees knew of the strict rules regarding height. One invitee, who is shorter for his age, made sure he was the correct height (measured in bare feet) before RSVP'ing and showed up to the party. He was over the height at the measuring station. "All is good" we thought. "We're ready for a fun afternoon."Unfortunately, there is a non-disclosed policy regarding height - All participants must not only be tall enough, they must also have legs long enough to drive without full extension (locked knees). So know we have a 12 year old who is unexpectedly told he cannot participate. Imagine if this was the birthday child instead of an invited guest?!? I discussed the matter with the on-site manager and asked directly if I could see something where this policy was disclosed. His response was that it wasn't in writing but was something he was told verbally as a safety precaution. The manager did his best to make things right and was generous in his offerings, but the bottom line is that even though all the posted rules were followed, a 12 year old was still humiliated, in tears, and left feeling more self conscious about his height than when he arrived. A simple line on the website stating that all drivers, regardless of height, may need to be "cart-checked" to drive and, if within a couple of inches, checking with the facility is advised would have avoided the whole situation. After the young man in question left the facility with his Mom (and yet another discussion with the site manager) we proceeded with party - with one less guest. Now for the good.Everyone remaining at the party had a good time. The kids enjoyed racing around the track, playing video games and having snacks. You can order pizza or catering through the facility and can bring in either cupcakes or cake for parties. Any other food brought for parties costs an additional $50. There are 3 multi-lap races and a max number of 8 racers at a time allowed on the track. Parties require a minimum of 8 racers (we originally had 10, reduced to 9). If your party has more than 8. they break them into 2 groups, which I found preferable since it make for a less crowded track. Kids are awarded medals for the top 3 in the slower group and trophies for the top 3 in the faster group. The seating area is spacious enough to for parties, though it could get crowded is multiple large groups come through. Party times last between 1.5-2.0 hours. There wasn't a big crowd outside of our group and the staff did a good job of getting everyone in at a good pace.As I stated, the manager was generous in trying to make things right after the invitee was told he couldn't participate and the rest of the staff was polite, friendly and cordial. NLT, I would have gladly foregone any and all of the compensation to have avoided the situation entirely. I'm sure the kid feels wonderful about being reminded that he is shorter than his peers. It's one thing if a participant chooses to not follow the rules and be denied participation after being "caught." It's an entirely different situation to explicitly follow the rules as posted and be surprised by a mystery rule that nobody will be able to find by looking on the website or in the facility. So, would I recommend having younger teenagers at K1 Speed? if your racers are taller and have longer legs, go and have a great time. It's a bit expensive, but if your willing to spend the money, it's a memorable, fun outing. If your racers are under 63 inches in height, I would find it difficult to recommend going to K1 Speed until the cart fitting requirement is clearly disclosed.
Don't have the budget to play on a real racetrack? Don't have the time to go to the nearest shifter-cart track? K1Speed is the answer! Perfect for a visit on your way home from the office or with older pre-teens for a fun outing. K1 speed takes care of everything. Just bring $, because while it's cheaper than real racing, it's still $50 for three track sessions.
First time I've ever driven an electric go kart. Very quick and responsive. Not the cheapest activity but I can't help driving their course over and over again. They keep stats online with all the members and it's great to see how you compare with others
We popped in on a weekend, and although it did not appear particularly crowded, it took about 2 hours to get in 3 races. Call ahead and check wait times, but don't be surprised if it's longer than you thought.
I have been there twice. Went with teens and had a great time. It is VERY expensive for a very short ride (about 8 minutes) but it is fun. The cars are electric powered so they can be slowed down by the workers. I have been to other tracks that are larger and karts run on gas, which are better. This track is pretty small. If it is a rainy day, it is definitely worth checking out. I would give this a higher score if it was a larger track and less expensive (maybe they can give more laps to compensate for this....)
This is a great place for teens! It's serious go karting! Not at all like Disney ones! I wouldn't suggest it for younger kids. I would say 13-14 at the youngest. The staff is all very friendly and wants to make sure your safe and have a fun time!
We went to this indoor track. It's nicer than many go kart tracks. We really enjoyed ourselves. The track is pretty good, the only thing that would make it more fun is if it was a little bigger. It is on the smaller side but the karts are good and we didn't have any trouble. We will go back here on a rainy day. It is a fun time. The staff is really great. They are friendly, safe and just generally seem to be looking out for you. I recommend this place!
Thanks for the review and we are so glad you had a great time! To help everyone out, we are always offering great deals if you book a package, purchase multiple races, or even check-in on Facebook or Yelp. Hope this helps!
