Interesting exhibits about the homesteading days of Orcas Island. The settlers had to make do with what they could grow or make.
This is a pleasant little museum documenting the early years of Orcas Island. It is definitely worth a visit some day when you are walking around Eastsound wondering what to do next.
We stumbled on this at the annual Eastsound 4th of July festival and we learned so much about the history of Orcas in just one half hour. Will return when we have a couple of hours to really explore and speak with the very knowledgable docents.
Small but personal museum. Good exhibits that portray early life and times on Orcas. Interesting antiques and plenty to read as you walk through.
This museum has wonderful items that have been donated from island residents. Great story boards throughout the museum. There was a gentleman that greeted us (forgot his name) and he walked me through much of the museum. Several of his family members have donated items. He is a wealth of information and a hoot to talk to.
We were really looking for the USPS when we walked past this museum. What a great find! an incredible collection of early Orcas artifacts and images. The museum is housed in an assemblage of log cabins that have been connected. We spent over an hour looking at as much as possible until the place closed. Very helpful docent/volunteer filled in some gaps in information for us. Take the time to check this place out!
Run by the dedication of volunteers, the museum strives for authenticity. It's housed in reassembled pioneer cabins and full of unusual artefacts (have you ever seen a wool carder?) that do honor to the Native Americans and white pioneers alike. The volunteers available onto visit, Bill and Denise, knew fascinating stories.
Great selection of historical photos, and artifacts from the past. Built inside historical landmark buildings.
Local volunteers whose families have lived on the island for generations were there and were very helpful and informative. There are many artifacts and written stories about the history on Orcas Island that were recorded from many people who lived there.
A great little museum with some wonderful items and history and herstory......great pictures too.
