We tasted at Cascade Cliffs on both sides of the river - both great. The Washington side was especially nice. Anthony and Jared gave us special attention and explanation of their wines, their history, and their plans for future wines. Very personal and enjoyable! (Anthony, I hope your "un-browned" meatballs in Barbera sauce turned out delicious!)The higher-end wines are absolutely delicious!
Cascade Cliffs is an outstanding winery! The Barbera is second-to-none and has become our favorite wine! We joined the Barbera and Cliff Clubs after having an incredible tasting room experience with Anthony! The great part of being a club member is that you can taste at Wishram or Hood River if not wanting to drive as far from Portland. The wine choices are superb and we have never tasted an inferior wine at Cascade Cliffs. The tasting room personnel at Wishram and Hood River are very engaging and professional. Jared makes the experience entertaining and fun!We make plans to return as soon as we get home and award a well-deserved five stars to Cascade Cliffs Winery!
We stopped in for a wine tasting one afternoon. We ended up staying longer than expected, had a great conversation with their staff, and ended up buying a few bottles. A very nice laid-back comfortable atmosphere. Small and friendly. We would visit again.
Cascade Cliffs winery is in a very cool location on the Columbia river. It would have been nice if they took advantage of the view for their wine tasting room. Went to use their restroom and there were SO many fruit flies all over the place. I won't buy any wine from here for that reason.
Two years ago we stopped and sampled their wine with Jared Germain. Found it to be just outstanding. Decided to stop this year and once again Jared was our server. He's very personable and extremely knowledgeable. If you're in the area do stop in -- you won't be disappointed! They are opening a tasting room in Woodenville WA later this year.
On the last day of our two week travels, we come across Cascade Cliffs Winery. Just sitting there, a little tasting room, very intimate. The staff was friendly and fun, just the opposite from some other who think their wine is better than it is. And the wine here...starting from the front and going to the end, one hit after another. The reds, especially the Blood Red barbera, were unbelievable. We joined the Wine Club, oh yeah. Can't wait for the shipment.
Excellent hospitality, here. We tasted several reds and a number of the whites, including a wine made from the super rare symphony grape. Their gewürztraminer, a grape I don't usually care for (too sweet/spicy, like an old-lady perfume) was in fact one of the most interesting--deftly dry and intense without going overboard on the ginger. Of the reds, their barbera is apparently their top seller. It's a full-frontal fruit style that's more a cocktail than a food wine, so personally not in my wheelhouse, but the more restrained and very Italianish nebbiolo, that comes across with all the spice and femininity of a good barbaresco, was very much to my liking and I bought some. Good visit, with expert commentary from the general manager Jared who wasn't our pourer but who popped out when he overheard discussion by savvier-than-usual tasters in the tasting room. You won't find Cascade Cliffs in Washington wine stores because their entire production is spoken for between their wine clubs and the tasting room, but don't let "I've never heard of it" hold you back. That, in fact, is exactly why you should drop in!
This is one of the wineries we visit on a regular basis. Small, friendly and knowledgable. We enjoy the hospitality. Cascade Cliffs knows how to put on an event! There are a couple of wine clubs based on your likes. When looking for a gift, this is one of the wineries I look to.
Staff couldn't care less about us while we were there to pick up our case today! Last time was so much fun! Our server was Eric and he was so very friendly! Today though, we feltlike 'chopped liver'! We thought we were at one of those 'uppity'wineries!!!
Cascade Cliffs is a must if you are visiting any wineries in the Columbia River Gorge! Very friendly staff, Jared is a great host and the environment is very relaxed, with personable patrons trickling in and out. It is also pet friendly, and tours of the beautiful river-side vineyard are available with notice ahead of time. And yes, the Barbara is to die for!
The wines were very good especially the barbera's which is their speciality. It is worth a visit just to taste the Barbera. WOW!! Only issue is they are bit pricey.
We didn't have time for the winery, but really enjoyed our time in this tasting room on Oak Street in downtown Hood River. The girl who did the tasting with us was very informative and friendly. We were the only ones there and it was nice to talk to her about the wines and the area. It was an unexpected find for us and well worth it.
We really enjoy this winery. The wines are great & the experience is great too. The staff is always knowledgeable & informative. We always go home with some great bottles of wine. They also have a nice tasting room in downtown Hood River which is more conveniently located than the actual winery.
This winery was completely delightful to visit. The Columbia river gorge and the vineyard are quite the site and set the perfect stage for sampling the wide variety they grow on site. My favorite, by far, was the Nebbiolo. The complex flavors and boquet make it a joyful red to identify with. You can pair it with many lighter dishes consisting of either bird or beef. I can not wait to make this wine a regular on my order lists.
Lovely setting ,generous pours, wonderful wines. We were treated to a tour of the winery and learned quite a bit about the wine making process, and then we sat down to taste some really delicious red wine. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and made the visit most enjoyable.
