We chose to drive through here to see the Canal on our way back east. It is very beautiful, and the canal is larger than you would think it would be. Some cute little towns are scattered along the way. Cars were very good about pulling over if they were holding up traffic, which was nice. Glad we took this route!

Hood Canal stretches ,many miles north to south and will visitors plenty of beautiful views and salt water access. The Hood Canal Bridge is the access point to the Olympic Peninsula which features many small towns, wineries, casinos, and the most beautiful scenery in the world. We know, we look at it every day.

Went up for 3 nights with my best friend and her grandmother, her grandmother has a cabin right on hood canal and it was beautiful to wake up to in the morning, lots of adorable seals and a family of parent and baby otters we would see regularly from her dock. We did lots of exploring, lots to see. On our second to last day my best friend and I kayaked across the bay to get to the other side, on the other side we saw baby seals on the beach and once the noticed us they rolled and lopped into the water than swam parallel to us in the water while we were on the shore! Amazing! But on our way back, about half way across the bay we see a HUGE head of some kind of animal, it was so big my friend was convinced it was a whale, I kept going because I thought it was just a seal, then it breeches again and I see a very large snarling sea lion about 25 feet away. We are a quarter mile from shore and this giant animal is snarling and growling and chasing us back to shore. It was so close to my kayak I could smell it's fishy breath. Never ever going kayaking again. That thing could have easily flipped our kayaks and dragged us under the water like rag dolls. There's only supposed to be seal in the area so after we dragged the kayaks along the shore then walked 2 miles back no one believed us. But I would never get into the water again, be careful while swimming, and if you see a sea lion run. It's easy to tell the difference between a seal and a sea lion, just look for the ears on the lion.

We have a family cabin that we absolutely love out in Hood Canal.you can either take the bainbridge ferry and drive through Poulsbo or drive south past Tacoma and around southworth. I used to take the ferry option but with the overcrowded lines I never was able to catch the desired time so found that driving around was usually faster and cheaper.

This is the spot that we have found that is possible to swim in at any weather and enjoy the salt water. In summer of 2014 we came here about 10 times and enjoyed each trip.

We took a diversion and went to the Hood Canal area and found it to be charming. The bridge itself is an engineering marvel.

Beautiful drive along the Hood Canal. Lots of fun places to stop including parks and shopping. There are many sights and even wildlife to see along the way. A great way to spend the day.

After completing a 2 month international tour, we were comparing our visits to the Hood Canal area, which is North America's longest fjord with other areas throughout the world. Our most recent Hood Canal stay was at The Historic Balch Retreat on Hood Canal, a historic waterfront home on the widest portion of the canal. With so many natural offerings it is every bit as impressive as the numerous places throughout the world we've traveled. A previous reviewer must have missed the Mt Walker pull out/viewpoint just north of the Brinnon area on the Hwy 101 Scenic Byway. The views on a clear day are beyond spectacular that offers both the Seattle skyline and Rainier. Trails and numerous waterfalls are truly fab, especially Rocky Brook Falls. Seafood loaded beach has considerable wildlife, and an amazing amount of beautiful shells with a beached barge from the early 1900's at the historic vacation rental mentioned above. Definitely a not to miss area. When we want out of town company to have a great time and feel special, this is where we take them.

We rented a house called GiggleFish from VRB365. The house is right on Hood Canal with breathtaking views of the canal; eagles; heron; seals and so much more. The property is perfect with a main house and a cabin. We were a party of 6 and were comfortable using the house for a gather spot. The cabin is perfect for a couple and has the best showering. The main house has very low water pressure, but with some creativity and teamwork we made it work. Who would have thought that we could eat breakfast outside on the deck, but the weather was absolutely perfect and the kids loved the seakayaking!

Hood Canal is a beautiful natural setting. A true fjord, surrounded by the Olympic Mts within a couple of hours drive from Seattle. Even in the fall and winter the drama of the rain forest and snow capped mountains makes it worth the trip. Great places to stay and eat in the surrounding areas.

We drove up the Hood Canal from Olympia to Port Angeles and hoped to be able to enjoy the beauty of the canal we had heard so much about.Unfortunately our view was usually blocked by trees and there were no viewpoints to pull out onto to enjoy the view, stretch our legs and take some photos. Very disappointing - what glimpses we did get looked nice but these were few and far between.

We enjoyed our time on Hood Canal. We did a lot of crabbing there for Dungeness crab. They were yummy! The weather can be rainier than the rest of the area. The water is warm in the late summer.

Wonderful drive on Hwy 101. Lots of winding up and down with lovely views. It is suggested to pull over for views as the road can be well traveled. Look out of people on bicycles. loging trucks and people just looking out on too the canal and not the road. Use some caution and pull over for faster cars. Great drive.

Hood canal, Dewatto WA. Is remote and off the charts majestically beautifully. This slice of heaven is an abundant seafood extravaganza, fishing, wake boarding, boating and just relaxing atxhing sunsets and bald eagles. A piece f heaven of earth

foreveratravelbug

But the views are spectacular all the way around! It's an easy drive - don't forget a camera and binoculars to see bald eagles!
