Small display indoors. Outdoor art very unique. Great place to wander and discover artwork. Easy hiking on trails. Fun place to visit. Would definitely recommend.
outdoor walk was peaceful and wonderful. the exhibit was nice. the site was probably the best part. basically i expected little from the visit. but i really liked it. the outdoor walk around the wooded area had art objects but it was peaceful. i was surprised and i am glad i visited there.
What a fun trail to walk on a beautiful sunny day! So many interesting sculptures and displays of creativity. Surprises in the trees, on the ground and around every corner. Definitely a must do on a beautiful day in Port Angeles. Find a place to sit, enjoy the scenery and perhaps meditate in the quiet beauty that surrounds you. Even without the meditation there is a sense of peace that surrounds you here while walking the trails. I thoroughly enjoyed the walk.
A great, creative display of art in the woods. We were also lucky to be there when they were hanging a show of plein air paintings of the peninsula. Strolling along the paths we met up with a group of deer who seemed very accustomed to visitors. Every turn held a surprise with displays from the ground to the tops of trees. A real treat!
No show was hung at the time of our visit as they were preparing for a big plein air painting festival, but we enjoyed the sculpture garden. Beware, the footing can be unstable there, the paths aren't particularly flat. Worth a visit, friendly staff, small gift shop area.
This was a marvelous surprise. The forest has been left in a natural state as opposed to gardened with pathways meandering throughout the five acres. I am sure we did not see all there is to see. Some of the sculptures were ominous, some were decorative, some carried social messages, some were whimsical -- my words can not convey the delightfulness of this park. Don't think of this place as trying to achieve some sort of museum status; some of the work is meant to be temporary or even humorous. Creative use of place is demonstrated. The whole time I was thinking about how much children would love a visit here. It is a wonderful introduction to the possibilities of sculpture. You look down and there may be a carved stone at your feet. A tree wears glasses. A stump oozes smooth metal. Is it alive? A twenty foot swirl of delicate metal looks like the passage of a breeze through the branches of the trees. At every turn there is something to discover. Follow the signs to the Art Center where there is parking. You can walk through the adjacent woods from dawn to dusk. There is a lot to see in the upper flat area; one walks down a few steeper trails to another flat area. As I said, the woods is left in a natural state so roots and rocks are in the pathways.
Loved this amazing art center, with sculptures in the woods behind the center. About 3 minutes up the hill from Port Angeles downtown. Run by lovely volunteers. No admission charge and just charming and interesting.
Our hotel manager at the Royal Victorian hotel suggested we visit the Art Center. It's a beautiful wooded area with art thru out the walk. Amazing art, a lot of it just made you smile.
Museum itself was "ok." What made the visit worthwhile was the tree park, and all the hidden art along the many winding paths.
The P.A. Fine Arts Center is well worth a visit. The setting is lovely, in Webster's Woods, and the exhibits are well curated and meaningful in their arrangement. The outdoor exhibits, mainly sculptural, mostly of native materials, are very compelling. In addition, some theater work has been staged there. A few years ago, "Women Without Men" was performed in Webster's Woods, it was stunning.Check it out!
My husband is used to my dragging him to museums and galleries, but this was a venue I had to drag him from. The exhibit we most enjoyed was the art forest walk, which we spent more time than expected at his small site. The weather wasn't great, but it didn't hinder our enjoyment; I would imagine the site is even more colorful on a sunny day. We are past child rearing age, but I imagine this would be a fun place to visit with kids, especially in a scavenger-hunt type of activity.
We found this place easily with our GPS. The art display indoors was a bit limited but interesting. The outdoor display is what our small group of 3 very much enjoyed. The Center is located on 5 acres with trails and adorned by various pieces of art scattered through out along the trails. The weather cooperated during our visit, making it a very pleasant walk. The lone staff member ( volunteer ) was pleasant, and tried to be has helpful as she could.
This is a fun place to visit and it is free. The property is forested and has lots of little trails to follow. There are works of art hidden everywhere; above your head, on the ground, in the bushes. The art seems to change over time, so if you return a year later, you'll see something new. When I was there, a deer crossed the parking lot heading for the hillside forests. The area is quiet and park-like and very relaxing.
First time ever my Mom and I went to an art part! This one is so wonderful, we spent over two hours wandering through the forest and up & down the hills, and when we left, we knew we missed a lot! What we saw was a wonderland in itself! Loved all the different concepts!
We visited the day after Thanksgiving while distributing posters for the Winter Bainbridge Island Studio Tour. Very warm welcome to a small gem of a museum housed in a distinctive NW contemporary building, formerly a home. In addition to the indoor display space the grounds hold a sizeable collection of whimsical outdoor art. The visit turned out to be a real treat.
