If you're going to explore the Elwha area, there's no reason not to stop. They're lovely falls that are easy to get to along a paved trail a short distance from the parking lot at the park boundary. If you weren't planning on going past the Elwha, I don't know that I'd go out of my way just to see them. There is also the larger, somewhat further access Marymere falls just west of the Elwha along lake Crescent
I hopped out of the car, skipped a few step, and jumped in amazement at how close this waterfall was. Then again this is Washington I should not be surprised I have seen a few even on the side of the 101. Good spot for the selfies and a waterfall or in my case a good fence to place camera for those long shutter shots :)
Quick and easy and gives one a feel for the area. Not spectacular, but very nice. And quick :)As of Nov 2014 closed while the park does some major maintenance to the trail.
It's a great place to go if you don't want to do major hiking the kids can get down to the water to play and it's a beautiful spot!
This waterfall was very easy to access with a paved short trail. The falls are beautiful (how can a waterfall not be!) But I liked that this was less popular so there was no crowd and we could enjoy this all to ourselves. Also there is a beautiful river across the street from the parking lot that is easy to check out as well.
Because I was recuperating from a broken ankle, we chose easy hiking ventures. This was very lovely and very accessible. Was a nice side trip in anticipation of Crescent Lake and Hoh Rainforest.
Lots of places say "just a short walk" but this really was. I stopped to catch my breath (slight elevation) and look at the creek and little did I know that the falls was literally right around the bend. Maybe 2/10 of mile from parking lot. These falls are awesome.
Just a short very easy hike. It is paved so even wheelchairs can get back to see the falls. You turn a corner and it is a 90 foot falls..do not forget your camara.
Was disappointed falls were closed due to repaving trail. No signs until we pulled in parking lot to find ranger sending people away. Did see falls couple years prior in springtime and very nice.
This is a very quick hike. Easy to get to and beautiful. Get a small warm up in when you take this .1 mile hike.
It's a 2 min easy walk from the parking lot. The fall is not large at all, but since you already come, just do it
Very nice falls and only a short distance to walk. I don't remember any hills, mostly flat so younger and older people can make the trip to see a waterfall
The path to Madison Creek Falls is paved and wheelchair accessible, and takes you to a great viewing point very near the falls. If you don't use a wheelchair, it is possible to walk down the small bank and stand at the creek or get closer to the falls. Pretty, easy to get to, worth the few minutes if you're a waterfall fan. Even the parking area has beautiful views of the mountains, and is a peaceful area of the park.
One of the most easily accessible waterfalls in/around Olympic National Park. Everyone should be able to make the short walk to the falls. We've visited several times and always make a point of stopping when we're in the area. The flow of these falls varies greatly and is dependent on the time of year you visit and the amount of rainfall recently. Regardless, it is well worth the time to stop. Don't forget to carefully cross the road to view the river. For those more adventurous, there is a short hike to the river.
An attractive woodland waterfall, but one of the smallest I've seen. Nothing compared to, say, Snoqualmie or Deception Falls. Nearby Marymere Falls is a better bet. But, Madison does have the advantage of easy access.
