I'd never been, but enjoyed leaving the hotel and walking around. Lots of great eateries and shopping. The Macy's has a discount level, which was great for bargains. Would love to go back.
Downtown Spokane is getting so much better. Nice restaurants, entertainment, hotels, bars and so much more to do. I will definitely be spending more time here
Western Canada gets a lot of TV stations from Spokane, which had led me to believe that the city was likely a long stretch of big box stores and discount automotive supply places and carpet centres stretched along a broad expanse of interstate near the Idaho Border. It is that too, don't get me wrong, but Downtown Spokane is definitely worth stopping in. It is a pretty and well kept area with lots of interesting shopping, restaurants, and apparently a thriving arts scene. Definitely worth considering a stay downtown instead of a chain hotel off the interstate.
Nice collection of stores for shopping as well as a number of restaurants to choose from. Parking can be a challenge but can be managed.
My husband and I moved here 15 years ago for his work, and now we're staying in our retirement. We could live anywhere, but love the small town feeling of the 2nd largest city in WA state. Tons of neat little restaurants, great happy hours, and world class hotels (the owners of our jewel, the Davenport, are taking reservations for their new hotel, The Grand, now). Plenty of parks, and don't miss the Spokane River (especially in the early spring, when the falls are roaring). Snow skiing is 20 miles away--and you won't pay CA or CO prices. Gambler? Spokane is a native American city. Very nice casino/hotel (Northern Quest) close to the airport. Love it here!
Downtown Spokane is almost as it was built in the early 1900's. We are looky that the fortunes of Spokane were stalled in the 50's onward. Nobidy had the money to know down beautiful old bricj buildings and build concrete monstrosities.Great walking, but look up and across the street.A good collection of restaurants and bars, and the belle of the ball, the restored Davenport is truly worth a stay if you can afford it. If not take a guided tour around
Spokane is a beautiful city if you take the time to appreciate the architecture. There are a lot of old brick buildings, several gorgeous hotels, and some fabulous old churches in the downtown area. Riverfront Park is fun for all ages with its rolling lawns, ice skating in winter, carnival in summer, and of course the famous red wagon. Downtown shopping is great and there are a surprising number of restaurants and pubs to keep you refreshed.
Much to do in downtown Spokane. Mobius Science Museum to explore, Davenport Hotel interior to see, along withother architecture, some very historic, many restaurants to try, The Bing, & Woldson Theater at the Fox, & other venues, Spokane River nearby, not too crowded. Street parking not difficult, @ $1.20 per hour, cards & coins accepted. Parking garages, too. Very fun in Downtown Spokane.
the indoor center is very very nice. the tree and decorations are really great. the ppl in the stores are friendly and ready to help.the escalators to the top give great views from om high.the walkway has great views too and being indoors is a huge PLUS! with the city night lights and a view towards the park is excellent when you are inside out of the chilly winds. the stores?the chains are as you would expect in a mall [over priced]there are specialty stores that you will find things that you will really enjoy and might even take some home. :) parking is the challenge, but at night there are more meter spots open. this is very handy for us handicap parkers to enjoy free parking. :)
I spent 5 days and 4 nights the week of New Year's Eve 2015 and what a great area to stay. While not Manhattan (or even Seattle), Spokane is truly a diamond in the rough with a wonderful symphony (at the beautiful art deco Fox theater), stage plays, etc (at the INB Performing Arts Center right on the river), a beautiful downtown park and myriad opportunities for shopping and dining in all price ranges. The River Park Square Mall AMC 20 theater is also a gem and oh-so-convenient if you are in a downtown hotel. Downtown Spokane really is an all-season destination with lots to do any time of year, but New Year's Eve was REALLY fun.
We went for a couple days with friends to celebrate my birthday. There's lots of shopping and lunch at The Davenport Hotel is an experience not to be missed!!
Not only are the surroundings with Riverfront Park and the Spokane Falls unbelievably beautiful, but the urban amenities are incredible with all kinds of restaurants, wine tasting, shopping, and unique boutiques all within walking distance. You have to make a trip to downtown Spokane. You will be glad you did!
Downtown Spokane has many amenities to offer. River Front Park and the Falls are ever changing with each season. Which means even as a Local the scenery changes every time we visit the Park. The Downtown area has many shops and is getting more and more specialty shops. There are many restaurants to choose from Specialty Hotdogs, Fine Steaks, to Fish & Seafood viewing the falls. There are many events that take place Hoop Fest, Bloomsday, and of course Gonzaga Basketball. I think it is a friendly town and have lived here for over 30 yrs. If you don't mind getting out in all seasons " it can get a little cold in the winter" there is always something to do I think we have more walking and outdoor areas than most bigger cities. See for yourself
The downtown is well organized and full of good restaurants and lots of fun things to do. The huge park is being upgraded with a beautiful river running along its edges. The city is on the move to make things even better. The city also hosts an absolute world-class hotel (The Davenport.) Come visit.
We loved the River Front Plaza Mall and the 35 foot tall tree inside! My kids and I explored downtown and the mall for almost three hours plus we saw a movie on the sixth floor! We absolutely loved the escalators and the atmosphere of the whole place! We will definitely be going back when we are in the area!
