The George C. Marshall, of Marshall Plan fame, was an unexpected surprise. We were walking in to Fort Vancouver and had no idea that the home was open for viewing. General Marshall and his 2nd wife lived here for a few years in the 1930's. The home is a gorgeous Victorian with spacious rooms and beautiful furniture. The entire neighborhood is clean with abundant green grass and fresh air. The employee was friendly and knowledgeable, yet she let us tour the house without shadowing us which was much appreciated. I can't say enough good about this attraction and would recommend it to visitors strongly. I might mention that this is not a site that would interest children.
The officers row was so clean and one of a kind atmosphere. The rest of the grounds that is now a open park. People were jogging, walking their dogs and people were just relaxing at the picnic tables. It was so peaceful. I recommend to anyone who lives here or is visiting.
Interesting place with an excellent docent. This is not a long tour but our docent was so good that we stayed about twice as long as we would have otherwise.
It is worth stopping in to tour The Marshall House. The docents are knowledgable and friendly, the displays are well done and it is just fun to imagine life in their home. It is lovely.
A nice older gent was the docent who had all kinds of interesting info. I didn't really know much about George C. Marshall so I enjoyed it.
Interesting history behind this home, located near the fort, and on officers row. Nice little walk to see all.
The historical buildings established prior to both World Wars, housing famous American Generals including George Armstrong Custer, Ulysses Grant, and George Marshall, as part of the Officers' Row complex in downtown Vancouver, WA. Formerly a barracks in the Old West, and one of the few lasting tributes to George Marshall.
Good museum. Very interesting and well preserved. Nice people and a great place to have a wedding of 50 - 75 people. Grounds are beautiful and a perfect location.
An exceptional place to go, wonderful in every way, historical building. It is beautiful & terrific.
I am a wedding officiant and I married a couple on the steps of the house. The inside is gorgeous with antique's. A great wedding facility.
Amazing house - on par with Pittock Mansion as for architecture and woodworking. Beautifully presented with period furniture, and a wonderful step back in time. A must-see in the PDX/Vancouver area.
Lovely architecture from previous century. The setting inside Fort Vancouver gives perspective to how our ancestors enjoyed living on larger plots of land.
The tour of the house is short but you can watch a video on Marshall. It was nice to get a short history lesson.
The Marshall House is one of more than a dozen on Officer's Row at Fort Vancouver. It is the only one that is open for public viewing. However, in contrast to the previous review there was no one around to give us a tour. One person who might have been associated with the house was on the phone the entire time we were there and merely looked at us and asked if we were tourists. It is a nice example of 1880's architecture, but all the Officer's Row homes were "restored" with an a vinyl siding that IMHO clashes with their style.
The lady who gave us a tour of this house had worked at the fort during the Korean War. She was amazing and so informative. She gave us a deluxe tour!
