We are season ticketholders for good reason. We used to live in San Francisco and enjoyed that world-class symphony. Seattle can hold its own with the Seattle Symphony, refreshed by the arrival of French Conductor Ludovic Morlot as Music Director.
Wonderful organization. Congrats on the Grammy nominations! I wish I lived downtown so I could go more often.
Comfortable seat with a fantastic view of the stage, reasonably priced ticket and intermission refreshments. The orchestra were very good, conducted by Jeff Tyzik who while being an excellent conductor, also had a good rap pour with the audience.
We decided to go last minute and got great seats at a fantastic price. Go early to the ticket window and ask for last minute availability.
We live in a small town in Ireland and get few opportunities to attend the symphony. My husband is a huge fan of classical music so we seized this opportunity. Ticket pieces were reasonably priced and the ticket lady was so helpful. It was an amazing night and we got to see a brilliant Russian pianist ... Played Tchikovski Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor. Daniil Trifonov was the pianist.
After you enter the area for ticket holders, across the lobby of the symphony hall and down the long nearly lifeless hallway on the opposite side of the building (the west side), there is a room at the end of the hall that used to be a private space for donors and the like that is now a wonderful restaurant. The room is large and lovely, and the food is excellent. It is on the high side of mid priced. Allow plenty of time though. Despite the staff's willingness to move you through quickly if you show up at the last minute, the service is not fast and the food is too good to be eaten in a hurry. Allow at least 90 minutes for a pleasant dinner before a concert.
The third season for Musical Director Ludovic Merlot and an orchestra that is now recognized as among the best in the country. They are blessed with one of the best halls in the country. The repertoire leans toward Mr. Merlot's native France, but is as varied as any musical taste could demand. The world's top solists and orchestras, as well as chamber groups now make Seattle a regular stop on their world tours.
I'm a former season subscriber. Now go to various concerts and special events. Newish conductor, new music and old favorites.A must visit to Seattle to see the main hall and Symphony if you have time.
Not that you can't watch the orchestra as they play...that's 1/2 the fun, but I like to just close my eyes and let the music take me to distant time periods and places. The Seattle Symphony is truly grand for any music lover of any age.
Gerard Schwarz. A Seattle icon. Always an amazing performance. Benaroya Hall is always stunning. Enough said.
The Seattle Symphony in Benaroya Hall is a linchpin of Seattle's cultural experience. The Hall is magnificent. The seating is comfortable and the sound is excellent. We have a wonderful Symphony in Seattle that is the main tenant of the Hall, but there are other performances there as well. If you are in Seattle and enjoy classical music, the Seattle Symphony should not be missed.
If the symphony is playing while you are in town, don't miss it! The musicians are amazing and the hall is beautiful. A treasure in Seattle.
Times change, and I was a Gerard Schwartz fan, but go if you have a free evening ....well and a bit of money. Or if you have guts just go down with a sign..."two students need cheap tickets" and you will get them cheap or free (from the rich persons).
Music of Danny Elfman concert June 2014My first ever orchestral concert and I can not fault the fantastic performance and the superb acoustics of the Benaroya Hall. My only complaint has that the back of my seat seemed to have minimal padding and became a bit uncomfortable towards the end of the performance - strange given that the venue is relatively new.
Great orchestra and a fun night out. They usually do special events, so pick something that interests you. Recently they did a set with Sir Mix A Lot!
