This is a fabulous collection, mostly made by two men who were obsessive about the history of electricity. It was fun and interesting and the staff is involved and ready to demonstrate many of the exhibits. It is worth the visit.
Really huge collection of all things related to electricity. Worth the trip. So much to see and explore. Glad we took the time to check it out.
We really enjoyed our visit to this interactive and educational museum experience! The afternoon show was a highlight as well. Highly recommend for all ages if interested in learning about the history of electricity.
It was a lot of fun. We spent 2 hours+ The staff was GREAT We learned a lot. I would suggest going on a Saturday to see the 2:30 show it sounded fun.
I went to the spark museum on a date, and saw the Tesla coil 'show' it was really interesting and I learnt a lot. We also paid $10 per person to go in the cage at the end while the Tesla coil was turned on, it was extremely loud but very cool, we got a sticker and pictures taken which are nice mementos. The museum itself is also very interesting with a lot of information and original pieces!
My husband is an electrician and a ham radio operator, so he was in 7th heaven at this place. And I hate to admit it, I even found it interesting.
This isn't a museum of musty radio gear. There are great exhibits showing the history of radio and electricity. My grandson was especially excited about the Tesla "million-volt spark machine" as he calls it.
Because of my husbands affinity for electronics, our friend insisted we visit this museum. It was a great visit. Boy did someone collect just about every personal electronic you can think of for the last 150 years! They also have a true tesla coil demonstration. Watch to make sure you attend during one of the demonstration times though as the tesla coil has limited demos but would be worth your seeing. My husband creates them too so he was motivated to see it yet we missed it by 10 minutes and were therefore only able to see the rest of the museum. Tesla coil demonstrations are amazing though so try to time your visit. This museum has a process to explain how electronics have grown over time yet it also has every different type of device you can think of to visually show you of electronics over time. It is certainly worth the visit for a day or at least multiple hours.
This museum of the history of electrical and radio inventions is quite extensive and amazing and there are many programs aimed at all ages. It is also home to the studios of an excellent little low power radio station that also plays on line, KMRE. KMRE hosts a number of community shows, including the South Fork Law show which boasts interviews of every prominent politician and legal expert from Bellingham to Seattle. Spark is a must see in Bellingham.
I was quite surprised how cool this place was. My grandson loved it, but he has always been interested in electrical stuff. the staff are very pleasent and seem to know quite abit about all of it.
This is a fun little museum full of all sorts of electrical items from across the years. It's pretty cheap just to wonder round but it's worth paying a little more for one of their demos if you are there at the right time. Be brave and volunteer, the hubby and I got to sit in a Faraday cage whilst being bombarded by a Tesla coil, not your average museum visit!!
My 13 year old granddaughter had a wonderful time with all the hands on science activities. Very well worth the low cost. It is conveniently located in downtown Bellingham where you can shop and eat nearby as well. Would highly recommend it to families with children.
We use electricity every day, but most of us don't think much about how we came to have it. This museum will make you look at everyday electrical inventions in a whole new way and never take them for granted again. The collection is so complete that you can see the entire evolution of things like phonographs, telegraphs, telephones and inventions no longer in use. I would have liked to have spent the whole day there! Tana Granack, (the curator?) was both knowledgeable and passionate about the collection and his enthusiasm was infectious. I would recommend this museum to anyone of any age!
Great visit for kids of all ages, including 80 year olds!Informative, well organized, very interesting with an unforgettable high voltage Tesla show.Worth traveling to Bellingham to experience it. Check show times and days since it is not a daily event.
Well worth a visit. We particularity enjoyed the demonstration of the old phonograph devices, radios, and telephones.
