It's a drive up the Mount Baker Hwy., but worth the effort. The Falls offer a free trip to see an amazing waterfall and wild river. Do not climb over the fencing for a better view. Note the plaque commemorating the lives lost at these Falls just in the past 20 or so years. Just enjoy the beauty with your eyes and let the camera hang from your neck. Grab a quality pic from Google Images and call it a day for your picture needs. There is a trail to walk down towards the Falls so take this in vs. just looking from the bridge. The trail isn't wheelchair friendly and small kiddos should be taken by the hand. The trail isn't long but it is populated with roots and rocks. I love the massive trees all around and the noise of the river. The volume of water varies according to the time of year. Go in the late Spring for the most water. This area is quite shaded by the tall trees and can be muddy so watch your walking and take care in where you park if the mud is significant. You may not have cell service.
The falls are beautiful and worth a stop on your way up to Mt. Baker. I'm not sure that I'd make it my single destination as there isn't any real hiking around the falls. Essentially you get out, do a short walk to the falls and turn around. They are beautiful though!
On your way to Mt Baker in Northwest Washington is a dirt road pull off and after about a half mile a bridge and a parking area. If you can navigate uneven ground, go across the road and work your way to the fall noise that you are hearing. After your short hike you will be rewarded with a great falls. There will be several view of the face of the falls and another look of the top from the bridge. This is an undeveloped site except for the railing but is a great picture taking opportunity. If you venture outside the fenced are be very careful the ground is wet and rocks slick and there have been deaths (mostly teanagers) of adventuriers, I have shot this falls several times over the years and truly love it.
This is one of the shortest hikes on the route to Heather Meadows and deserves a stop. Had a little trouble knowing if we were at the right place, so make sure you have a decent map to help you get there. We stopped at the information place in Glacier and the person there was very helpful.
In late May, there was a lot of water (glacial melt) flowing over the falls. Later, in September, the flow was only a fraction of what is was in late May. Parking at the falls is limited and a bit tricky to navigate. Definitely worth stopping to see if you are on traveling on the road toward Mount Baker.
If you are heading up to Mount Baker this is a wonderful place to stop and see. The falls are beautiful and a great place to take pictures. Plus it's free!!
If you are heading up to Mt. Baker, be sure to stop at the Falls on the way up, as the turn is on the right and a bit hard with trafic and angle coming back. It's a wonderful falls, but be careful to stay withing the fenced area, as several have slipped in. Free.
It is a short drive from the Mt Baker Scenic Route to see Nooksack Falls. The walking path is a little tricky through gnarly tree roots and steep up and downs. The vantage point views from about the halfway mark of the falls. You can barely see it fall into the ravine. Look for a rainbow affect on the rock at the bottom of the leftmost falls. It is worth a few minutes to add this sight to your day-trip on the beautiful Mt Baker scenic highway.
Picture a ravine with a fall that goes, goes down 80+ feet surrounded by majectic trees. The walk from the parking lot is short but tricky, but the overlook views are awesome.
Located on the road Mount Baker and worth the short walk. Guard rails are there for a purpose do not cross over and try standing on the edge.
The short access road to the falls is right off Mt. Baker Hwy, and it's an easy walk to the observation point. It's true that there is not much else to do here but gaze at the falls, but what a sight; it is truly mesmerizing! There is a good hiking trail right along the Nooksack at Horseshoe Bend, right outside Glacier.
Well worth a quick stop on the way to Artisan Point. The dirt road is a bit pocked, but going slow alleviates the bumps. The falls are essentially 50 yards from where you park. The path is a bit tricky with rocks and tree roots, but again like the road, slow and steady wins the race. The falls--of course--are gorgeous...
Area is very beautiful, but the vantage point of the unmarked lookout for the falls does not lend a full view of the falls. It is worth the drive on the gravel road.
Turns out the pictures I'd seen before going to Nooksack Falls were taken by professional photographers who probably risked their lives to take the picture. They even list on the board the names of people who have lost their lives trying to go beyond the barriers! The good news is it is pretty even from the fenced area and is not far from the Mt. Baker Scenic Highway. There were no bathrooms there and no place to picnic. I took some pictures but would have loved to have viewed it from the bottom of the Falls rather than the top. If you're on the Mt Baker Highway, stop in!
Easy access to a free sight seeing place with free parking is hard to find. Well worth a 1/2 hour or more stop when in the area. We stop almost ever time we past this local waterfall.
