To reach Mowich Lake, one has to drive long miles on bumpy gravel road full of pot holes and wash board. The lake itself is a great destination for families with smaller children as you can drive within walking distance. It is also a great starting point to many fantastic day hikes such as Spray Park or Tolmie Peak. In the winter it is possible to snowshoe from the gate at Paul Peak trailhead to the lake.

This was one of our camps along the Wonderland trail this summer. The sites are open and close together. Facilities are nice with hand sanitizer and access to the lake was easy. Clean lake. We saw a few families with very young babies and tots, so if you are looking for solitude this probably isn't the place. 3 out of 5 from me for this reason.

What a great hike. The drive up the gravel road is a little rough but worth it. Once at the lake take the hike out to Spray Falls. You'll be glad you did

This is a great place to visit in the summer. Road is closed about 3 miles out in the winter. Great hike to Spray Falls.

It is July 2012 but there is still snow present around the lake. 55 degrees, but almost perfect hiking weather. Trail to Spray Falls is clear of snow. Perfect time to go with the various flows of water falls, streams and the flowers beginning to bud. Nature, quiet and serene, beautiful flow of water. Keep an eye on the children at the falls and the trails. The fee is only if you do not have a pass or have paid in the last week in Mt Rainier National Park. The trail head is just past the restrooms. The road to get to Mowich Lake is rough from the winter weather changes, so don't take your car that doesn't have good shocks! Well worth the drive up!! Look at my picture I uploaded, this isn't even the falls, just a glimpse of the beauty on the way. Multiple areas like this at this time of year with the snow melting. Enjoy God's creation every step!

Great place to camp and access Spray & Seattle Parks

One camps in a circle next to others and sometimes groups. You can day camp here and access trails for day hikes and not have to backpack. The road can be bad getting there but not as bad as some. BUGS are a huge problem when they are in season.

Lots of hiking available here. The lake is so pristine. Bring plenty of water and a picnic lunch.

I was born in Seattle. I have hiked, camped, hunted, driven, explored every wilderness area you can get to either by foot, car, airplane or boat, I had the best life as a child. My siblings and I had the greatest outdoorspeople for parents. It was a life filled with boating the northwest waters, camping the entire western states, hunting western and eastern Washington, Oregon, into the Canadian wilderness all the way to the Arctic. The passion remains. I have seen so much natural beauty. Spirit Lake was one of the most pristine and magic landscapes of all the places I saw. My siblings and myself climbed to the summit of St Helens, fished Spirit Lake, if only you could know how breathtaking the area was. Lake Mowich has that same natural beauty on an extremely smaller scale. How splendidly beautiful it is, the crystal clear waters reveal rocks and plateaus under the surface; the alpine meadows along the shores are matchless in thier beauty.The noble and alpine firs are dispersed as though by God Himself. The vine maples provide the firery color in the fall. All of this and a full view of Mt Rainier., It's one of the places where the icy chill comes right off the glaciers and blows across the lake. Only Japanese gardners have ever come close to mimiking the splendor that was greated by God. How beautiful it is. and three miles on a trail leading out of Mowich is a jewel of the Washingotn Alpine wilderness; Lake Eunice. What can I say, it has been touted as the most beautiful of all Alpine Lakes.I think the Ingalls Peak trail out of the Esmerelda Basin takes you to a similar magnificence. the Enchantments, Ingalls, Eunice and Mowich will take your breath away. I am 60 years old, I hiked, caressed , breathed in this beauty long before the new breed came along. The new breed that radiates superiority, they think only they know these wild places and they think they are exclusive owners of it. I have been looked as though I should not be in their domain. They and their water pills, REI gear, and the boots that are better than anyone elses boots. May I suggest to them that they just get real about what they are and who they are and enjoy the fact that you are not special nor exclusive...it's more important to develop your mind, your being and your morality so you can be remembered as decent, compassionale, interesting human beings..... not merely exclusive and on a higher plane of existence than others...get real with yoursleves.

I Just HIke to Mowich Lake On the 5th of July from the trail head at the end of Hwy 165 It was a great hike and had a lot of fun, but as you get closer to the top the trail eventually fades out due to being snow covered. At the top there was still 6 or more feet of snow and the lake still mostly froze over.
