Went to Kalmia when the azaleas were in bloom last year and there were many beautiful varieties. The camellias were the most gorgeous I have ever seen. Enjoyed the boardwalk through the swampy area and saw several types of birds flying about. The area and gardens around the entrance looked a little run-down, but maybe it was the time of the year. The grandchildren love this place and we do plan to go back sometime this year. Hartsville is a pretty town with kind, friendly folks.
This is a lovely place to spend a leisurely afternoon. The gardens are beautiful and the trails are a great way to get a little exercise while enjoying nature. The boardwalks by Black Creek are awesome. And there's no entrance fee!
Board walks, ponds, streams, lot of beautiful things here. Not alot to do for children which would be nice but its a nice place to enjoy nature.
Beautiful place ran by the local college. They have great beautiful flowers. Wonderful trails to walk down and if you want to have an outdoor wedding in this town this is the place to have it. So beautiful you won't be disappointed to stop by here.
There's flowers and plants galore. I've known many weddings that have happened here. It's just plain beautiful to walk around and see the colors and nature everywhere.
This is a great little gem found in Hartsville. Kalmia is actually owned by Coker College, and houses great woody trails for a peaceful get away from life. Walk down to Black Creek and watch the fish pass by. Listen to the babble of the water as it laps by while you take in all that nature has for you in this secluded area of the world. Unlike normal "gardens" this is a more "natural" garden...the way God intended!
My husband and I like day tripping on our motorcycle and on a lovely crisp fall day in November we were off from Camden to the gardens. We found walking the pathways calming and the beautiful camillas were amazing with their vivid colors and full flowers. No wonder they are nick named winter roses!
From the parking lot take one of the paths leading to Black Creek. Walk along the creek. Walk across the creek. Afterwards enjoy the gardens around the Hart House.
When you visit, you must walk the trail through the Gardens. It is beautiful, nature at its finest. The boardwalk gave me the feeling of leaving all my cares behind and just exploring the beauty ahead.
great place to just chill out. The board walk down to Black Creek is one of my favorite places . so quite and cool, which is nice on our humid days here in South Carolina
Love This Garden,It So Beautiful Year Round,It's Nice to Stroll Though The Gardens:)
It's a great place to walk and relax. The river isn't really moving but the water makes it seem peaceful. During the summer there are a lot of bugs. There are no paved paths so it might be slightly difficult for older persons but overall, it's just an easy stroll through the trees. If you keep your eyes open you'll most likely see some local outdoor artwork and interesting foliage.
nature. 30-50 minute walk of dense nature. lots of flowers. lots of trees. beautiful creek. wooden boardwalk covers 80%. live artesian well.
This college garden is free to the public. Lots of pathways and boardwalks over the wetlands to see the flora and fauna. Not especially handicap accessible as there are lots and lots of stairs on one path... so caution to those not up for rather rapid vertical changes is topography.
