Although I'm technically considered "a local", I was looking for something very special to do with some friends and family visiting from out of state. This trip couldn't have been more perfect. It was obvious that we had hired a passionate life-long pro and not just some cheesy, boring tour guide like we've all experienced:) "Captain Jack" was laid-back, entertaining and so very accommodating. Our recreational experience was an educational one, as well. We were all amazed at his sailing expertise and his extensive maritime and wildlife knowledge! Between the gorgeous weather, lots of beautiful and amazing dolphins and the exciting real life stories he shared, it will be one of our best memories ever! We learned that many of his guests come back year after year and we certainly know why because he spoiled every one of us, too! What a fabulous day... Thanks again, Captain Jack. We can't wait to see you next year! Karen and Mark
On the spur of the moment we celebrated a combined 68 of marriage. It was perfect weather and Captain Jack was entertaining, accomodating and shared anecdotes and background about the area. We sailed several times into groups of dolphins and watched them feed, frolick......and even mating. An afternoon delight!
My family and I have been annually sailing with Captain Jack for over 10 years now. Every year I wonder if he can top his performance from previous experiences, and of course he always does! Just in the few hours of yearly sailing, I have gotten to know Jack as a friend and not just the captain of his boat. I can personally promise Jack is far from "lazy". Captain Jack is the fastest moving and most efficient one man sailing crew I have ever had the pleasure of sailing with! Not only are his sailing skills top notch, but he matches the skill with equal knowledge and expertise of the area. Ask him just about any question and he almost always has an answer.Captain Jack is a great guy and an even better sailor. You will not be disappointed with a sailing experience with Captain Jack!
Thank for your feedback. I pride myself in not having a bad review ever, in my 22 years of charter sailing experience. I do however, always welcome the opportunity the improve my business and maintain my stellar satisfaction ratings. Perhaps I should have explained during our trip that depending on the direction of the wind, it can be necessary to use the motor at the beginning and end of the charter to navigate Bohicket Creek. I do try to maximize the time under sail. I never mind "tacking and jibing" as sailing is my personal and professional passion. I regret that you weren't satisfied with your outing and wish I had some idea during our charter that the trip didn't meet your expectations. I certainly would have done everything I could to improve your time aboard. I would like to offer you a sincere apology and of course a refund of the $60 you feel you deserve. Please call me anytime to give me your mailing address and I will promptly send a check to you.Blue Skies and Good Air!Captain Jack
Jack was a great host and captain and would highly recommend him to anyone. He took time to explain and chat and would also give us as much space as we wanted. Boat was very comfortable and shaded and well maintained.
Captain Jack was friendly and informative. He has years of experience sailing and it was more than evident how comfortable he in on the water. He provided us with just the right amount of attention and privacy. I wouldn't recommend his trip if you are looking to do a fishing trip specifically. We were able to catch and release a couple small and unique marine creatures however it wasn't quite what I had expected for a fishing charter. (please note this is not what Captain Jack specialized in just another service he offered.) We actually ended up throwing in the towel on the fishing and doing more sailing and dolphin watching for the majority of the trip. Which was perfect and my husband and I were most content with relaxing and enjoying the sites and the sailing. Thank you Captain Jack for giving us a most enjoyable day on the water.
This was our second time sailing with Captain Jack. We had a great trip about 7-8 years ago when visiting Kiawah Island, and when we returned to Kiawah recently we decided to see if he was available. We were delighted to hear that he was still working out of Bohicket Marina and scheduled a sail for the afternoon. My husband, daughter and I had a great time. Jack quickly found a pod of dolphins and we were able to spend the better part of an hour observing them up close. Doing this on a quiet sailboat rather than some noisy motor charter is a huge plus! Jack is an expert sailor and kept us in close to the dolphins. We had a beautiful sail on the way back in and a sunset as we came into dock. This was our second wonderful experience with Jack - we highly recommend him!
We went on a 3 hour tour with Captain Jack on the Palmetto Tide and it was awesome. The Captain was very informative and we saw tons of Dolphins. It was a very relaxing sail. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Captain Jack took us on a wonderful trip on a perfect day. He was very amusing and knowledgeable of the area. The captain knew the exact spot to find dolphins that were eager to strut their stuff. It was an experience like no other on a very peaceful, quiet, desolate bay.
My family recently sailed with Captain Jack and we had an awesome day. We booked a 5 hour picnic tour to shell island. Captain Jack showed us all the sights along the way and was very knowledgeable about the area. The dolphins put on a great show for us too. Captain Jack was very accommodating and a pleasure to spend the day with. While sitting in the front of the boat with my 2 children, my six year old son turned to me and said, "mama, this is amazing." Everyone had a great time. My mom, my children and I ventured to shell island and the fellas stayed on the boat and lunched with Captain Jack. What a wonderful day and one of the highlights of our trip. Amazing!
My wife and I had an excellent and informative session with Captain Jack. The trip was as "hands on" as we wanted, and we learned so much about sailing. Captain Jack was flexible, professional, and patient in the face of our many questions. If you want a great day on the water, whether sailing, dolphin watching, or fishing, we are sure you would have a great time with Captain Jack.
My best friend, my four year old twins and I boarded Captain Jack's Palmetto Tide mid-week just before July 4 holiday. After many stressful, travel related issues, Jack was a kind, hospitable, professional. He gave us a little geographical layout, talked about dolphins and his sailing experience all while sailing the boat. My kids had never been on a boat before and were very curious, if not slightly mischievous. My best friend is afraid if water. Captain Jack was very gracious and quickly put everyone at ease. The wind was perfect. We did a tack and on our way back to the marina saw several dolphins playing, then strand feeding. What a truly delightful memory! This was, hands down, the very best part of our trip. Everyone should experience sailing and dolphin viewing, in this way.
Our family booked the beach picnic with Capt. Jack on the Palmetto Dunes sailboat. Right away, he was attending to our personal needs (fair-skinned children) and put up the sunshade. The boat was incredible, and we were mesmerized by the dolphins. Once onshore, we walked the beach and saw great shells and horseshoe crabs. On the way back, we enjoyed a relaxing sail back to the Bohicket Marina. Really the most memorable family vacation due to this tour!
Visiting friends wanted to dolphin watch, and Captain Jack had been highly recommended. We know why!! He is friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to spend three hours with. We were surrounded by dolphins within a 1/2 hour of the sail. The Palmetto Tide is a beautiful sailboat, and it's easy to get a great view no matter where you sit. The time flew by, and we weren't ready to head back. This is a MUST SEE, MUST DO if you are in the Charleston area or vacationing on Kiawah or Seabrook Islands!
My wife and our 3 children had the pleasure of going on Captain Jack McConnell´s Dolphin Watching Nature Tour off Seabrook Island, SC, last summer. Captain Jack was extremely knowledgeable and knows the waterways so well that he was able to take us to all the spots where the dolphins would gather. We got very close to the dolphins and had the added bonus of seeing them strand feeding - very interesting for both adults and children. Captain Jack could not have been a better guide and I would highly recommend his tour. Suitable for adults and children (ours were ages 4, 7, 9).
