I live in the area and always take the dog for a walk on the trails. The trails have a layer of sand to walk on and they never get muddy after a heavy rain. There are volunteers that rake the trails daily which keeps them clean and neat. I start walking the dog on the red trail at the front entrance and go almost all of the way to the Intercoastal Waterway. I then connect with the blue trail and make my way back to the front entrance. Takes about an hour or so round trip. You can also drive into the park and take the road to the end, there is ample parking along with bathrooms. If you want to go crabbing or take a walk to the Intercoastal it is just a short walk from the parking lot. You can sit on the pier and watch the boats go by, watch people fish or just have an enjoyable time viewing nature. There is also dog waste bags available for our furry friends.
Nice little forest preserve to walk the dogs or take a walk away from the beach crowd. Excellent walking paths and shade, easy access, very pretty. Really enjoyed it - a little different from the typical beach scenery and a nice break.
This is a great place to take a relaxing walk through our maritime forest areas and even go out to the pier on the ICW in Little River, S.C.. It is really a hidden gem that is off the beaten path and away from the tourist. Come enjoy and leave it in the same or a little better condition than when you arrived and you will love spending your time here......
My husband and I found Vareen Gardens while trying to "waste" a little time before going out to lunch and we are so glad that we did! We spent about an hour on the marsh walk trail and even were able to view several dolphins. What a great surprise. I will be telling others about this beautiful place so they can visit when they are in the Myrtle Beach area
Lovely place, dog and kid friendly. Hiking trails on undeveloped patch of forest on the waterway. There are maps at the visitors center. There are also porch swings set up to relax and take in the views. Also there are plenty of picnic areas for gatherings. There are sign around some of the trails explaining about the local wildlife. Great spot to bird watch, hike, go crabbing off the docks or just relax. Gates close at 5pm during the offseason.
This park, located near Little River, SC, has boardwalks and trails along the Intercostal Waterway as well as trails through the tidal marsh area and the pine/live oak forest butting up to the marsh. It is a bird watchers' paradise, often with enough bird activity to be considered a "hot spot" for birding. The boardwalks are very nice; the trails carefully marked with information signs to share information about the vegetation and the birds/wildlife you might expect to see. There are well maintained port-a-potties near the parking area. One suggestion: bug wipes or sprays can be needed some days.
This has become a daily activity for my dog and I. Love walking the trails, and letting the dog take a dip in the water. Beautiful setting. Love watching the boats on the Intracoastal Waterway. So many beautiful birds to watch too. Easy to follow the marked trails. When you're done walking, relax on the lovely swings.
We have been here many times with our dogs. Zero cost and a variety of views trails and just great place for a walk and talk.
My wife and I have been better dozens and dozens of times. This place is just as much fun each time we return and during each and every visit we discover something else new we didn't notice the times before. This is a peaceful place to go if you're looking to get close to nature and the wildlife. Every time we've been we're able to capture new neat pictures of nature and all the many residence housing in and around the area. There's even a peer that goes out into the waterway that makes for a great fishing spot that's frequented by many but never seems too crowded. Every time we've been there we meet nice people, some locals and others who are here on vacation from all around the US.Great times around the Myrtle Beach area don't always have to cost you a whole lot of money and this place stands as proof for that should you ever want to see this for yourself.
This is definitely an easy to miss park but worth a stop! Nice boardwalk over the salt marsh as well as peaceful pathways to the waterway. Relax and watch the boats pass by! Good place to take your camera and explore. No cost to enjoy, but donations are accepted.
Passed it's main gate many times, and even saw it from the waterway, but never knew what bit was. It is a very nice park, located right on the intracoastal waterway. Lots of nice trails on raised walkways, and access to the "beach" on the waterway.
Liked learning the history of the area. The Gardens have a number of paths that you can take that are easy to follow (red, blue, yellow) and very informative plates along the way.
What a nice break from shopping, drinking, traffic. I walked on some of the trails around 9am. It was nice to walk to the salt marsh and see some boats out in the inlet and listen to nature. Free, donations accepted.
I hesitated about writing this review because this is such a serene, unspoiled place that I really didn't want to share it with others. For four years I have been going by here on the way to Calabash, NC. When I first saw the sign, I thought it was a cemetery. After looking it up online it sounded like a place I would like to visit, so every time we went by I would express this desire to my husband. Last week I did. The "gardens" consist of 114 acres of salt marsh, woods and the Vereen family cemetery. Located on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the park is a bird watchers paradise. There is an abundance of hiking trails through both marsh and wooded areas and for the "couch potato" there are benches, porch swings and picnic tables; all with magnificent views. Admission to the park is free, however donations are accepted. Portable bathroom facilities only.
This is a public park with a nice winding road down to the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) with a fishing dock, picnic tables and hiking trails. Along here the ICW follows the original "Little River" the Indians called Mineola. On the ICW by boat you can go south to Miami or north to New York. Take notice a remnant of "The Ole King's Highway" still visible. This is the original Colonial Road and the one used by President George Washington on his Southern Tour after the War of Independence. The park preserves original old growth coastal forest. In summer use insect repellent and watch out for snakes if you walk off the trails. It is a pleasant quiet place.
