My husband and I rented kayaks from Eric for 4 hours on a Sunday. We have both kayaked before so Eric didn't have to explain too much, but he made sure to give us a map and point out some areas where we might see wildlife. We saw lots of dolphins and birds and overall had a wonderful experience. We did go over to a small beach to stretch out our legs after a few hours, and just a warning, we were eaten alive by the sand flies. I'm still itching. When we were done we brough the kayak up, texted Eric that we were done, and all he asked was that we leave the equipment under the sign. A very easy, laid back experience, so I would definitely recommend others rent from Eric as well.
Erik was awesome !!! Kayaks ordered by phone. Erick was great got all details....brought kayaks ..maps to show us great places to kayak!!! All included great prices...Erik picked up the kayaks and I know we made a new friend and will be back to the kayak farm soon!!!!
This was the first time kayaking for my wife and I. Erik, owner of the Kayak Farm was wonderful. He did not rush us. He instructed us on how to use the rudders in the kayak, how to paddle and what to do if we tipped over - which never happened. The water along the marsh was full of wildlife. In one spot we actually paddled to within 20 feet of a family of three dolphins! Learning about the ecology and wildlife was enlightening. Erik was extremely knowledgeable and just a very nice and fun guide to have with us. I would recommend Erik and The Kayak Farm to everybody. Thanks for the fabulous experience!-Dan and Amy
We launched from Russ Point Landing and immediately enjoyed the beautiful view of Fripp Inlet from the water. Eric calmly handled our individual launches and we felt very comfortable as first time paddlers. During our tour Eric shared interesting information about the marsh’s inhabitants. His laid back manner matched perfectly with the peaceful nature environment. The kayaks had rudders which helped when the wind picked up a bit. We will definitely book another tour!
We did a kayak tour from Russ Point Landing with Eric of The Kayak Farm. The conditions were excellent and kayaking on Fripp's Inlet and in the marsh was incredible. Eric was very knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna. We learned some new things especially about the local bird life. The high point was certainly when we were kayaking in the midst of a pod of dolphins. They were so close I could have touched them, but of course we didn't. We will definitely repeat this tour when we return.
We discovered The Kayak Farm for the first time in summer 2012. We arrived an epic 80 minutes late - our responsibility. We called Eric from the company from the road thinking we'd have to turn back and miss the trip. But he was very generous and patient and we eventually arrived to join a family with two ten year-old kids out in the waters of a most beautiful and peaceful environment around St. Helena and Hunting Island, SC. Not only was Eric himself gracious about our lateness, his easy-going manner must have had an effect on the other family who were also really nice to us. We then paddled out through fabulous waters to see schools of dolphins right up close to the Kayaks as Eric told us some details of the local marine environment. The kayaks he supplies are a step up from the regular tour rentals - these have rudders for easy steering and we found them super-stable. So we came back for more in late summer 2013 and this time called ahead to request a different itinerary. Eric took us along a beautiful shrimp boat route where, once again, we had a visit from the dolphins, together this time with flying fish, flocks of seagulls, crabs crawling around the grasses and joyful nature in an area of outstanding natural beauty, tranquility and calm. Both times Eric also recommended a couple of great local places to eat after the trip. There's also a good art gallery nearby as well as the historic Penn Center where Martin Luther King is said to have written the early draft of his 'Dream' speechIn 2012 we kayaked in Hilton Head too with the robustly commercial firm Outside Hilton Head. But we didn't go back to them this year. If you want a professional yet easy-going guide, with great gear, in a pristine natural environment, we'd absolutely recommend this company. We'll be back.
Scheduled weeks in advance to meet at 8:30 AM for the kayak tour out at Hunting Island for the Sat. of Labor Day weekend (tour guide chose the time based on tides). This was going to be the highlight of the 2 day visit for my relatives from Colorado who only get one short beach holiday a year due to their busy work load.Needless to say by calling to cancel at 7:30 AM that Sat. morning, this tour company left them no way to make other arrangements with another company and that was the only day free to do this activity. He said he had to stay home with his 4 year old which is fair enough but if you are a one-man band operation (which we didn't realize in choosing this company) than you should have some back-up for is you are sick or can't make it (like a friendly competitor who could fill in or add your clients to their tour). So my advice is only use this company if you don't really care whether you go on the tour or not - they can't be counted on.
My son and I went on a short tour of Fripp Inlet with Eric and had a great time. Eric knew all about the area and its wildlife. Great local company, great guide. A number of dolphin sightings.
