A long time presence on the island, this gallery has a long history of representing the local artists and their works. Do stop in and ask them about Sam Doyle- he lived down the street and has emerged as one of America's greatest self taught artists. They will tell you a few stories.

You'll find many unique pieces in this little gem on St Helena Island; it has a long heritage there. Be prepared to bump into some famous people staying low-key!

Every time we go to Fripp Island, my husband and I always visit the Red Piano. Local artists (including Gullah artists) have items for sale. Many of the pieces are eclectic and very unique. The store owner and staff are extremely friendly and have great knowledge of the artists and their exhibits. I could honestly spend an entire day looking and shopping here!! Don't miss it!!!

We traveled across the country in part to see the Red Piano Too gallery. It has an incredible collection of outsider and folk art at reasonable prices. The gallery owner was wonderfully helpful. We had our purchases shipped back to us and they arrived well-packaged with no damage in a timely manner. Can't wait to go back.

This was my 2nd visit to the Red Piano, Too gallery -- this time with a friend on a first-time visit to Charleston. My first visit to the gallery was 2-3 yrs ago -- art enthusiast friends & I were visiting Jonathan Green's studio when he told us about the gallery. We drove the 70 mi down to lovely little Beaufort, SC and then onto St Helena island. The gallery is very easy to find -- being located at one of only 2 stoplights on the island. The gallery shares the intersection with the island's only hotel, a gullah restaurant, & the turn-off to Penn Center. On my 1st visit, I was shocked that the gallery in tiny St Helena's had such extensive offerings in its main gallery, 2-3 side rooms, and an upstairs -- lots of Jonathan Green prints, note-cards, & calendars, original James Denmark collages (priced $1,000 & up), more affordable collages by James' grandson, Demetric, pieces by many other island & SC artists, as well as dolls, quilts, jewelry, culinary condiments, and more. You can easily spend 2-3 very pleasant hrs browsing. I bought a very reasonably priced piece ($300) by Atlanta artist, Linda Pollok, who I was told spends summers on the island. On my 2nd visit, I again found 3 Pollok pieces & bought a second to pair with my first purchase. The very knowledgeable gallery owner was present on my 1st visit, and a staff person on my 2nd -- both live on the island. If I recall correctly, the owner's family roots are on the island as are the staffer's husband's, so both know the island and its history, the people, the culture, and the artists exhibited in the gallery. Altho located (or perhaps isolated) on the tiny island, the owner and her staff are obviously part of Southeastern US art circles as they're personally acquainted with the artists they carry and as Jonathan Green turned me on to their gallery. On my first visit, my friends and I toured the Penn Center; on my 2nd visit, my friend and I toured the island with Gullah Geecheemon Tours, so there are lots of other things to do on the island after browsing the gallery -- a very nice break from the irresistible charms of Charleston.

We visited this gallery twice while in Beaufort SC and bought a sweet grass basket and a primitive painting. The proprietor was knowledgable and very helpful with our selections as well as the history of the area and the Gullah people. The basket was extremely well done and after seeing the selection at the market in Charleston, I was even more pleased with the one we selected. This gallery is well worth the trip from Beaufort.

The staff at the Penn Center directed us to this "jewel" and my husband and I were amazed at the depth of the gallery as well as the art display of some famous artist names that we have become familiar with over the years. There was so much to see that this gallery coould have been a destination all on its own. Each artist had a designated area which made it easier to view. I felt overwhelmed by all of the art work and wish that we'd managed our time a little better to afford us more time for the gallery. If you enjoy African-American art...you won't want to miss this jewel!!

Do not miss. This is the best place to get a great "feel" for the area. Art is original and not available elsewhere. Prices are affordable. Be sure to pick up some local products.

If you're looking for Gullah art this is the place. It has other art inside such as sweet grass baskets and jewelry and oil paintings of the local area.

We drove out to the Sea Islands from Beaufort, headed to Hunting Island State Park. This gallery is right on the way. A great stop. We learned a lot about Gullah art and culture here, and our conversation with Elaine was just delightful. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the Beaufort area and interested in the local Gullah culture. It's only about 5 miles or so out from Beaufort.

Varied artists and styles but it would be hard to not find something you liked. Prices range from let's take it home to let me think about that one. Friendly service and many times one of the local artists is on hand to meet and chat.

My sisters were visiting our oldest sister that lives on St. Helena Island. We stopped here to kill time due to an accident (very unusual) on the main road. We ended up staying there for hours. The gallery is filled with all forms of art from local artist. The unique art ranges from hand made jewlery aprons and rocking chairs to amazing paintings. The selection is vast making it difficult to remain in budget :-). Prices are reasonable for the quality of the work. What was most attractive for me was that nearly all the work in the gallery was done by local residents, indicative of the creative culture of this area. Also the art included all ethnic/racial goups with much of the art being quite informative. This small Gullah island has an enormous amount of history much of it is presented in the form of art at The Red Piano Too.Daisy

Plenty of variety, a good representation of local artists, all in a convenient location.
