One of the most historic areas in Charleston likely filled with the ghosts of the many hanged here over the ages. Know your history and walk in, don't drive, and enjoy a real sense of place. Pity the folks who live on this touristy street, which locals avoid if possible during the season. From carriages to traffic, there is often confusion and chaos. Close to the market area, walk in if you must - don't drive and ponder the past. Hordes of people and gnats but with a lovely view. South of Broad is fine but on display here is not what it seems. Taxes are outrageous and upkeep huge. Show respect and courtesy to residents. They deserve it. Be glad the pirates have moved on and out lest you would be paying a handsome viewing fee or walk the plank.
This park has a slow paced atmosphere were travelers can take a much needed break from all of the history Charleston has to offer! A lovely place to reflect on history and ponder the future!
This is a pretty park. It's a nice place to relax after dinner or walk along the walkway enjoying the views of the water. Definitely should stop by while in the city of Charleston.
This place had views from all around. It starts off with you driving by some amazing old homes with such southern charm. This is a wonderful place to stop and just take a break from everything to just relax. You can do some good people watching if that is your thing.
besides the beautiful views, this is a great place to see some of charlestons best! a very nice area to take a walk or have a picnic!theres always something to see while you are here. also a great place to take pictures!
Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon for a picnic. Parking was free and plenty. Folks were friendly but it was disconcerting to see some allow their kids climb these old, old, trees- so heavy that the limbs were clearly weighted down- worried it would break. There are signs posted to let visitors know to NOT climb the trees....afterall, if everyone climbed them the branches would be broken off and the beauty would be gone.I visited in February so it wasn't that crowded..... I can imagine it wouldn't be that way in the spring or summer.
Maybe the best view of Charleston natural harbor and Ashley River, just beside a incredible “parade” of beautiful, really amazing historical houses.
You do not want to miss this when you're in Charleston. You can stroll or sit, look out over the water toward Fort Sumter, and walk past large and lovely old Charleston homes built so well that they faced off a direct hit from Hurricane Hugo without a bit of damage. They say the best things in life are free and this is one of them! This is the quintessential Charleston experience. If you haven't been here, you haven't done Charleston--it's just that simple.
Beautiful park, great place to sit and relax and look at the historic homes in the area. It's also a great place to jog .
Beautiful! Get down to the Battery and enjoy your day just walking around. Be sure to go by the water, near where the road curves. Look at the plaque in the sidewalk to see the direction of some important places.
This is a quiet relaxing part of town. For the history buffs you can imaging the bombardment of Ft Sumter out in the harbor. It is also a great place to take a romantic walk in the moon light.
This area is always interesting. It is a great area to park and walk. We always visit this area when we visit Charleston.
I thought we might see more choices for restaurants being closer to the water but it was a very nice quiet part of town. All the surrounding houses were very well kept. Great area for a walk in a historic town.
Great place for a walk. Surrounded by history and great views. Nice neighborhood to explore. We didn't have any trouble finding a place to park on a Friday afternoon.
Took an early run down to the Battery. There's a gravel trail that runs along the waterfront. Lots of beautiful homes. Nice shady park.
