We were able to get in at the end of the day and didn't have tons of time. The history of the place was interesting. Many plaques to read. The grounds around the House are interesting as well.
Was looking for a nice place to talk after the zoo and came upon this park. There was plenty of parking so after that I made my way down to the river to take a walk and enjoyed the peace and the nice scenery. I also stopped and took some photos at the old pumping station. My only complaint is that portion of the trail is fenced off and cannot walk the entire loop which doesn't make any sense. Overall its a great park that is well lit and a nice place to get out and get some exercise.
This is a very nice place to take a walk or run , I felt safe. Beautiful view of river and canal. Easy to access and park.
the write up exceeded the view and it was hard to locate the canal as the info was not helpful don't waste your time if you have other things to see and do
Great for dog walkers and joggers, but to be truthful, I wouldn't go alone. It's beautiful in the Spring.
The canal walk on the Columbia side of the Congaree River is a great trail. The only downside is that one can not go from Coble Plaza to the canal walk as the city? has a 100 yard part gated off. This kills the flow and there is no way to get from the relatively new area near Gervais St Bridge to the Canal Walk. Cmon - open up the gate! Worried about the canal equipment? Then why not fence that equipment in/create a walk tunnel through there. This would allow visitors from the museum to walk up to the damn and bikers could ride down the path as well. Great path....let's keep connecting the riverwalk dots!
Large and interesting - we took gobs of pictures. Very educational. You must see the scientific exhibits at the museum
My wife and I like to walk and look for different options. This area offers views of the river and the canal, water birds, fish ladder and is family and pet friendly.
This riverwalk offers great views of the river and there are always plenty of people walking or jogging about. Feels like a safe place to be and there are various nooks to stop at and take in the views.
It's a very nice park with good view. The surrounding area seems to be an upcoming hipster neighborhood. Warehouses were converted to shops and restaurant. It's a couple of minutes drive from the State House. We were there on a late Sunday afternoon and people were jogging and walking their dogs.
Good place to go for a run. But I would not come down here at night. Take the time to see the lock system and read the historical markers, it is really pretty interesting.
Great place to walk without inclines! Large parking area and bathroom facilities at both ends of trail. I love the pedestrian bridge and the path is an easy walk. The path is always clean and well maintained.
Such a nice place to get out and walk and run in Columbia with scenic views.Always looks like it is cared for and need to go more.
When I'm home I'm at Columbia Canal everyday the weather allows. The bike and walking path is approximately 2.5 miles long. A trip up and back makes a good 35 minute workout for me on my bike. The trail is fairly busy, but most folks are courteous and share the path.
This was my favorite part in Columbia to run/walk, and would be great for visitors. They have recently connected the two parts of the park that were disconnected, which makes for almost over 6 miles of running. There is a straight a flat path all the way to the dam (great for bike-riding), but also nature trails about 2/3rd down the path. It's 5 miles down to the Dam if you come in at the main parking lot, which is definitely worth the walk! Beautiful all times of year. Definitely check it out.
