If you have never panned for gold, this is a great family stop. You actually go inside what was once a working gold mine and then get to pan for your own gold after the tour.

My kids just loved the tour and I thought the guide was great and very informative. You can pan for gold afterwards!

Exploring the mine is not for the claustrophobic, but walking the mine and hearing the stories they tell give you an education that no book could ever give.

We took our 5 and 10 yr. old on this tour and they never got bored. We had to wait a bit for our group tour to start since we got there too early and they obviously want you to "shop" for souvenirs etc. with the lag time. Check out the brochures and travel magazines around town because there are discount coupons for this attraction in them. We walked back into the mountain and our guide was good at entertaining the kids in the group and it was interactive. Although the mine never struck it rich, there is a rich history associated with it. There is a nice display in the back of the mine for photo opportunities. If you want to pan for gold it costs extra and we had a schedule to maintain for the day.

The mine did find 10 ounces of gold, not much but only 10% of the miners struck it rich! 90% left just as poor as they may came. The people who sold services to the miner were the ones to reep the rewards. Did you come in January and what date. If I gave you the tour which I have done the tours in November thru January so far. Did you have children? Sometimes I have to adjust the tour so the kids may understand and also are attentive. Can I ask what you felt should have been done, so that I can do better the next time.
