Much to see and do - lots of vehicles from over the years to see for the whole family - just a fun little stop on the way to or from the Black Hills. Very reasonably priced.

The Pioneer Auto Museum is a must to see when in Murdo if you like old cars from the past. I would go back to this place in the future to see it again.

For sure, this is quite a collection; however, it's rather sad to see the old iron rusting and crumbling. There are a number of rare vehicles that could be preserved better, if not restored. The price of admission ($11) we felt was too high. I just cannot care about seeing a collection of, for instance, old outboard motors and felt that a $6 admission would have been appropriate. All that being said, the museum was interesting and I saw old automobiles that I am unlikely to see anywhere else.

This place could be wonderful, they have so many neat cars and so much to see, but it just isn't very inviting. There is so much junk in the way, the buildings aren't kept very well and so that makes it a little creepy. The staff was super nice and they have a scavenger hunt for kids that is fun.

What a collection! I have never seen such a collection. If you like to watch pickers or you like old cars with patina this is a must see for you if you're in the area. There is not much else in Murdo. It took us 2 hours to get thru it and we started slipping stuff after awhile. This collection is in multiple buildings that are as antiquated as the items in them. It was fun even though I am neither a pocket fan or a car buff.

When passing through South Dakota from Montana to MN stay in Murdo. Found this Auto Museum well worth the cost and time spent here. Found vehicles that you only read about. Easy access for handicapped. Well planned and maintained. Would stop here again if in South Dakota.

This is not a collection. .. its a hoarders nightmare! These cars are shoved into barns then left to rot! They were running then just parked. Most have flat tires and are leaning against barn walls or the car next to it never to run again.There is also no rhyme or reason, you may have a 1926 Rolls Royce sitting next to a 1971 Nova?Cat paw prints everywhere and hornets buzzing around. This place needs to be shut down and these cars given to loving homes.There is everything here from washing machines to Conastoga wagons piled onto each other.

We were stunned with the size of this collection. An added bonus was the cheap admission price. After going through this it became obvious that this is more of a collection of antiques and is not a 'concours' collection. The gentleman that started this museum was a picker and much of the collection merely displays his hobby. It is a shame that much of the collection is not better stored and out of the elements, but it appears that the museum operates on a shoe string budget and at least these items weren't crushed and could be restored. If you are any sort of a 'Motorhead' or history buff, you must visit this place. Caution though- you will stay a lot longer than you anticipated!

This place reminded me of someone who was a hoarder, or a "collector" but who instead of keeping everything in boxes or in his yard or letting everything pile up in his house to become a fire hazard, he decided to open a museum with everything he collected. It is VERY interesting, and not only if you like cars. While my husband looked at all the cars, I kept myself busy with all the other things on the walls, in the rooms, along the way. There were toy collections, uniforms, dresses, games, guns, signs, bicycles from all eras, as well as a mini 1906 town with a fire station, telegraph office, general store and one room school. Also an actual gas station from 1920. Be prepared to spend a lot of time, and if youre not into cars but you go with someone who really is, you might be spending a bit more time there than you'd like, but my husband was so excited that it made it worth it. He kept saying there were cars he'd never even seen before or even were sure they existed. His only complaint was that his pictures didn't turn out as well as he would have hoped because the lighting wasn't bright enough. My only complaint were the amount of spiders, in the bathroom, and in the doorway entry ways. We visited in fall, and I know spiders are bad in that season, but they were everywhere here, and they were the big orange speckled hairy kind with the huge bodies and short legs! Also I was a bit confused about the price. I thought I heard that it was free, (maybe on trip advisor) although I could be mistaken, and then I'm sure I saw advertisement saying it was a dollar entry fee, (but we realized later that was for a separate event being held at the auto museum later on). When we got there we paid 20$ for two, and this was even after the people in front of us gave us a coupon! $20 isn't bad though, but I'm not sure what the entry would have been had we not been given the coupon - we didn't get a chance to read whether it was 2 for 1 or just a few dollars off. Either way, with the amount of stuff to see, it was worth it. Also the service was friendly and each car room had a button that you would press that would turn on a voice recorder to explain the cars to you.

Here is a great time for the whole family!Start at their good diner for a meal, then walk through the auto-themed souvenir shop for unusual items and then get set to enjoy a walk back in time to whatever automotive era trips your trigger.Awesome isn't a term I use much, however these displays deserve it!

Don't let the name fool you. This is not just cars. It is an unbelievable collection of anything old including cars, tractors, motorcycles, & antiques. It was started in 1954 and there are about 40 buildings to visit. Definitely worth a stop & the $11 entrance per person.

This is quite an extensive collection of anything old. The old camper was quite a treat to see, they have a ramp to walk up so you can see the inside. The collection of automobiles is quite large and it would have been so cool to have one from each era that you could actually sit in and get a feel of what it would have been like to sit behind the wheel! The old pioneer buildings housed many smaller antiques such as house hold items and can get a little overwhelming but it also is a connection to our past and is interesting in that sense. The tour ends in the GTO Diner and we opted for milkshakes before heading to the gift shop.

It is worth $11 for admission. Most sheds had a button to push for car information. Nothing fancy, some of those cars have been there for along time, a little junky! Do not eat at the GTO Diner!

The Pioneer Auto Museum is a 65 year collection that includes 35 buildings of vintage and famous cars, trucks, tractors, peddle cars, outboard motors, implements, arrowheads, toys, buggies...you name it, he has a collection of it. Some of the items were difficult to photograph as the buildings were not well lit. The self-guided tour ends up in a 50's style diner with great American "home-style cooking" adjacent to a large gift shop. The employees are real friendly. Entry fee was $11.00 and worth every dime.

The big attraction was the General Lee car from the Dukes of Hazzard show so I didn't expect much more than that. However it was a massive place with dozens maybe hundreds of cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles, including a motorcycle owned by Elvis! Besides the vehicles, there was every collection that you can imagine, lunch boxes, dishes, toys and much more. So much to look at and some hard to see as it's stacked up. There is also a restaurant and huge gift store. Quite an interesting place.
