strawbale winery

We were visiting Sioux Falls from the SF bay area for a friend's wedding, staying near the airport. Could not believe when I checked my phone to see what was around and a winery popped up! This was definitely not the Napa experience, but this place had a cool vibe of its own! They specialize in making wines out of unconventional fruits (such as strawberries, boysenberries, pears, etc). If you are a wine snob or only prefer dry varieties, the wine here is not for you! We tried a few interesting varietals - most were quite tasty, but almost all were sweet (think Manischewitz). Was a nice surprise to be able to visit a winery in the middle of South Dakota!

Had to back track a little from Sioux Falls and travel a bit on a gravel road, but I'm glad we did. We love visiting (and tasting at) wineries, and Strawbale was no exception.The tasting room was small and had a nice selection of souvenirs. The tasting "bar" had a slate-type top and you got to write your choice of five out of about two dozen; included "fortified" (18% alcohol) wines with different colored chalk.There is a $5 charge person for these five tastes and you get to keep the labeled wine glass. The rest rooms I-90 or I-29 and you enjoy wine this is a must do on your to-do list.

This was such a relaxing, easy, Tasty, winery. What a treat! My niece wanted to have myself & my friend to this special place. Wine & kittens! And exotic chickens! The wine was GOOD. We went for the tasting & it was a great experience. Loved the site. They have special events there. Music & food. Unfortunately we did not get to do that. Check their website.

We went here over the 4th of July weekend and really enjoyed it. I love the new blueberry wine and the wine slushies! The pear wine is my husband's favorite. Its a must stop if you are in the area.

Some friends called and invited us to accompany them to 'Sangria Sunday' at Strawbale Winery. What a treat! This is a great setting ... it's enthralling for all ages -- there is something for everyone to enjoy .. the entertainment was extremely good -- we enjoyed the music, the setting and the Sangria .. GO!!!

Very nice place to be! The wines are excellent and the owners are so friendly. Stay for awhile and enjoy the whole experience.

We went to Strawbale Winery on a cool and windy Saturday while spending a weekend in Sioux Falls.I did a wine tasting, and liked all the wines, so I did a second...5 wines each. I really did like all their wines, which doesn't usually happen. A lot of them are very fruity, but they'd be great on a sunny Summer day.(which I'm HOPING we will eventually get)I appreciated that they also had beer as my husband doesn't drink wine.Strawbale is a very friendly, comfortable place - well worth the short drive from Sioux Falls!I loved the black slate bar top that they rescued from an old high school. You just write the names of the wines you want to try in chalk on the bar top like you would any chalkboard. oh yeah, and I left with a CASE of wine. :-)

This place is only a couple miles north of Sioux Falls and is worth the trip. The wine and the "local experience" were great, and if you have kids with you, they'll enjoy the chickens running around and the very friendly cats.

We went to Strawbale Winery on a Saturday passing through on our way home to WI. We did a tasting and loved all of the wine and had an awesome experience. I believe it was largely in part to Abby, the girl taking care of us. She was friendly and helpful and the rest of the staff seemed to be great as well. The winery was not at all what we expected, it surpassed our expectations a great deal. Beautiful place! Awesome wine! Great staff!

Each year we look forward to spending time at Strawbale Winery, listening to great music, sipping excellent wines, and enjoying conversation with old friends and new acquaintances! Don & Susie and their staff always make us feel at home! Don't miss a Thursday night Summer Porch Series if you like good music in a relaxing outdoor setting, or stop by for Sunday Sangria and enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn. It's fun for all ages!I recommend the Prairie Storm wine, but do a tasting and find your favorite!
