Tons of animlas. Some you can feed. The goats have a really cool structure they walk on ABOVE YOUR HEAD UP HIGH!Pony rides! Tons of photo opportunities! Beautiful grounds. Plenty of benches and seating areas through out. Small gift shop. Kept the whole family entertained for a couple hours! You could spend several hours depending on your kiddos interest in animlas.
Definitely a spot to stop for the kids. My girls (age 2) couldn't get enough of playing with the animals. The price was reasonable since the kids were free (under age 2) and they went crazy over being allowed to pet the goats and sheep. They wanted to pet everything after that. The staff there is young but really nice and great with the kids. Definitely recommend. A tip though-wear sunscreen and bring a hat. There are not very many trees and even less shade. On a hot day, it's toasty.
This place seemed kind of sad to me. The animals didn't seem to be happy or properly fed. I'm sure this is more of a place for kids then anything else. All of the animals are just ordinary farm animals, nothing out of the ordinary. I'm sure someone that owns a farm could display this much better.
Kids could have stayed there all day and played with the goats. Adults probably not going to be into it too much. Once admission is paid, you can come back for the following 2 days afterward. We ended up stopping in a couple of times since it was close to all our planned stops anyway.
It didn't disappoint = second time around. The staff are wonderful, the animals are great. The girls loved the chicks and the fact they can hold them was the reason for coming back. The baby goats are my favorite! they were fighting and playing and just wonderful!
I noticed the farm last summer while on a trip with another family member. This summer I was out with one of my grandchildren and decided to stop since she's an animal lover. One thing nice with this place is they do offer a free pass to use within 2 days so we took advantage of it. Our favorite were the goats. The pig races were cute too. The overall setting is so nice. It's a great place to take the younger kids.
This was a great find! We stopped because our boys (10 and 13) saw the goats up on the "goat bridge" when we drove by and thought it was hilarious. I was worried that for the money (not bad though) they would be bored. Not so!! Our whole family loves animals and we could tell right away that the employees at this place love them too! The animals are all very friendly and most actually want to be petted. Fed too of course, which you can do for many of them. The Pygmy goats were the best in the nursery because you can really interact with them and they are so funny!! Teething and nibbling on everything!! The mama goats in there were sweet and just wanted to be scratched. There are turkeys and chickens running around and so much to enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised!
Hubby and I took our 3 grand daughters (7,9 & 11) to McDonald's Farm last year and again this year. Their favorite is the baby petting zoo with the baby goats and some momma goats. The babies will climb all over you and eat your hair, which is sheer delight to the kiddos. They had baby chicks, rabbits, a small calf, draft horses, sheep, a pig race and pony rides. This day they only had 2 ponies working the rides, probably because the numbers were low. But, it's much more fun when there are more ponies and the kids can enjoy with their siblings. For some reason the "train" rides are one of the favorite's. The train is a line of 50 gallon barrels laid on their sides with holes cut out for sitting and steering wheels attached all pulled by a riding lawn mower. The poney rides and the train ride are $2.00 per person extra from the admission price. There are feeders sitting around to feed pellets to the fish, ducks and goats. You can get quarters at the admission desk. There is a small gift shop where you can purchase momentos and some drinks from a cooler. All in all, the kids love it, but the 11 yr old is about to top out because of age/attention span. There is a hand washing station outside for those concerned about petting animals. No food to speak of is available so be sure to eat first and everything is outside so think of the weather and be prepared to spend a few hours walking around. Not especially wheel chair friendly. Grat treat for those individuals not normally able to see and pet farm animals.
My family of 6, all kids under 10, visited. We really had NO plans to ever go there. However, my 5 year old daughter wanted a pony ride, her only request during our vacation. So we looked at every ranch that does horse rides, but only a couple offer pony rides (High Country Ranch--only 1 pony and only at 4:00pm) but they were far away from where we were based in Keystone. The tourism rep in Keystone said she only knew of MacDonald's Farm doing pony rides. Being right on Hwy 16, it's easy to find and find parking. The cost was about $70 to all of us to get in, but they do offer a 3 day free pass so you could come back too. Bring quarters/cash so you can buy some seed/food out of the machines and feed some chickens and wild turkeys that roam around. There are quite a few exhibits to see, we spent 2.5 hours here riding ponies, playing on the playground, watching a pig race and just having fun petting and spending time with all the animals. This was my first time at this attraction and I would fully recommend it for anyone who loves animals. I don't believe they have much for food here so eat beforehand or pack a lunch.
We have been here before when our kids were younger. Nice short walk through but kids were bored fast. Not worth the $48 to get in for us.
Family and I have been coming here for a few years. It's outstanding! It's a great place for "city" people to come and see farm animals and interact with them. Our kids love that they can feed the animals, bottle & hand fed. For the most you can go into the animal pens and pet them and feed them. Prices are within range of every place in the area but it's also worth it for the redneck to the white collar family.
Pay once and you get in for 3 days which is a good deal. Our daughter loved this place at age 2 and age 7. You can feed the goats and sheep. See pig races, hold chicks and chase chickens! They have pony rides and a tractor ride. People are really nice. The price like everything isn't super cheap but you get 3 days. $11 for adults, $8 for kids. Fun for all.
I came from NYC to the Rapid City area to visit Mount Rushmore... who knew that visiting Old McDonald's Farm would become the highlight of my trip!?!? This farm is relatively small, but fantastic. Animals include pigs, goats, cows, horses, etc. There is also a small play area for children, and a schedule of animal feedings and pig races. All the employees were really helpful and informative. A great way to experience South Dakota's culture and play with animals. You can go into the animals' pens and play with all the animals. When I visited there were two 5 week old baby goats.. adorable! THE BEST PETTING ZOO!!!
Went today with my mom and daughter. I grew up in Rapid but this attraction wasn't around so this was our first time here. We all loved it. My daughter is 2 1/2 and LOVES animals. I think she petted every one that let her :). We are all sad to see the FOR SALE sign as we hope in future trips we will be able to return. I do agree it is a bit pricey for one day but it is nice for the 3 days you can use the pass but on vacation it may not work out to return.
My almost 3 year old loved all the animals that he got to touch and my 5 year old thought it was awesome too. My 7 year old was just OK with it. They did enjoy the pig race and feeding the animals. Liked that you get 3 days for 1 price. Nice picnic area. Only bad thing was the chicken that hung around for lunch and would eat anything that came close to the ground.
