Can't remember when I had a worse glass of Chardonnay. Tasted like water with some kind of flavoring. Spend your money on another brand.
We stopped here on a drive to the NC coast. What a nice surprise! The blackberry Cabernet is exceptional. They also have a wine bar and live music playing! This was a very nice place. Dry and sweet wines were abailable
Although they do have a great selection of dry and sweet wine, they also offer a variety of entertainment throughout the week. Staff was extremely friendly throughout the tasting and even let us taste a new flavor they didn't have opened yet. Would definitely recommend and go back.
I've been to tastings here at Chatham several times and each one is just as good. I go about once a year to make sure I can taste new wines that they've made. This is a great wine experience if you are visiting and haven't tried any native NC wine. The tasting/tour is $10pp and you can choose from the dry white and red wine tastings, or a semi-sweet fruit wine tastings. I stick to the dry tasting, but i recently took someone that doesn't know much about wine and likes it sweet, and they loved the fruit wine tasting. I enjoyed the dry tasting and he enjoyed the sweet. The tour is quick because the whole operation takes place in the back room. After your tasting, you are able to buy by the glass or the bottle. If you buy a bottle, you get $2 off; and yes you can keep the glass. We came on a Sunday afternoon and we had the place to ourselves until the very end. If you want to stay away from the crowds, or are bringing a large group, go on Sunday. Check their website because they have live music and events certain nights of the week. The place can also be rented out for small events.
I have been a member here since 2011. The wine is excellent and everyone that works at Chatham Hill is super-friendly and ALWAYS excited to see you!
I stopped here on Friday for a tasting and found the selection of offerings to be wonderful. I was asked if there was one on the list I wanted to taste that was not open and I did want to taste theblackberry. She was happy to open that bottle and let me taste. They were heating up their Christmas mulled wine, and although not quite my taste, I would get this for a holiday party forsomething a little different. I liked hearing about how Marek got started in the wine making business. This is one of the nicest of the boutique wineries I have been to. The wine and thehospitality were #1.
I would have to agree with a review from August; Our server for the wine tasting was unwilling to open a bottle for us to taste...a Chard of all things. Her excuses were "it is only a few hours until closing and tomorrow is Sunday which is a slow day". Nevertheless, we bought the wine and absolutely loved it. That is the only reason I would give this 3 stars. I have NEVER come across a wine tasting where the server was not willing to open a new bottle. Dang, she could have taken it home with her if not finished by the next day....which I am sure it would have been. Had she opened it, we would have enjoyed a full glass while there. Very poor marketing. Would not recommend visiting for a wine tasting. Buy the wine elsewhere.
My wife and I met you a few Mondays ago when you spotted us looking through your window. We stopped by on a Monday when you were closed. We were very pleased when you (Marek) surprised us by opening the door when you spotted us looking through the window, let us in and shared a little about yourself and your winery. Since you did that for us, we have since been in several times to share a bottle, for a tasting, have joined one of your programs for free tastings etc. and have enjoyed the live music on Friday nights. Additionally, I understand that you sell your barrels after a certain amount of use and I am interested in buying 2. I added my name to your guest list and indicated "barrel" in one of the columns. I am just curious when you will be retiring some of your current barrels. Any time soon?Thank you!
Visited here on a Sunday afternoon during Labor Day weekend. Very quiet. Did some wine tasting and good conversation with the host. Did buy a bottle of wine to take home. If you have some time to explore Cary; the Chatham Hill Winery is a good option.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by Nancy. She was warm and informative. In response to her question about what type of wine I drink, I answered "dry red". I was pleasantly surprised by the white wines she had me sample. Her advice regarding buying wine was memorable and helpful. It was nice to spend a bit of time sampling good wine, with nice, but not overbearing, direction in wine tasting.
We went to Chatham Hill Winery for a tour and tasting. We've been to wineries before, but this one is a bit different as it is in a much smaller facility than others. The tour was excellent and informative. After, we went to a very nice bar room for a tasting. I prefer sweeter wines, but those accompanying me like dry wines. No one was disappointed. We were provided with samples from very dry to medium sweet. I was even provided with a vessel in which to spit when I couldn't swallow one of the dry samples. The sweet wine is nothing like a scuppernog, but rather like a full bodied dessert wine. We felt no pressure to buy anything, but my guests chose to join their wine club and are very happy with their choice.
The grapes are grown in North Carolina's Yadkin Valley, but they make the wines at this winery in downtown Cary. They have a nice selection of reds and whites and you can sample them before you make your purchase. They typically have a Friday afternoon social in their tasting room where you can relax with friends.
If you are looking for a vineyard wine experience, this is not for you. While the tour is fine, you are in their retail store with a more bar type feel than sitting in a tasting room at a vineyard. Wines are what you would expect from a NC wines...sweet and fruity. They have a great variety of fruit options and the wine is good, but I prefer my wine outings to be more origin story than restaurant experience.
Hubby and I went to the Chatham Hill Winery today. It was our first time going on a wine tasting and tour together. What a pleasant and enjoyable experience! Our tour guide was wonderful and answered our questions in a way we could truly understand. There was no pressure to purchase any of the wines but after 8 different samples, you're sure to find one you want to buy. The group taking the tour was much younger than we were but the winery proves to be a great place for boomers too! We'll definitely be back.
Had a winery tour three years ago and loved the wine...been a club member ever since! The owners are wonderful people who really care about their wines and their customers. I can't help but rave about this place! I enjoy going back to the winery whenever I'm in town because I'm always treated like family! Highly recommended!
