cougar run winery

Stopped in on a trip back from Concord. Nice selection of wines and gentlemen who served us was knowledgeably. Good place to go if you have some time to kill. It's personal preference but I enjoy visiting the vineyards and winery at the same time.

I came here with a friend on a Saturday for a tasting and the offerings were enjoyable. They do not have their own vineyard, but make the wines from juices. The gentleman who was conducting the tasting was knowledgeable and very personable. He made the tasting enjoyable.They have a pretty large selection of wines and a small gift area. The historic building makes a nice place for a winery.

We visited Cougar Run Winery on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and were pleasantly surprised. The winery is in a downtown area which is different from most places out in the country. The tasting included a choice of 6 of their wines and we enjoyed all of them. The wines are clean and crisp. The are not your traditional wines that require a high end palate nor are they your typical sweet muscadines. They are just so enjoyable. We were served by one of the owners while her husband spends most of his time making the wines. There is a sitting area as well and they will also serve flights of wine. There was a nice selection of gifts and cheese and crackers to purchase. Since this was the first winery on our trail for the day, we only purchased a limited number of bottles of wine and we wish we had purchased more. We will return to this winery when we return to the Charlotte area!
