This was our second time to Morgan Ridge. We came with a large group of friends this time for a tour, wine tasting and lunch, with some of our group enjoying the beer tasting. Our group enjoyed the variety of wine and looked forward to being able to enjoy their very nice outdoor facilities in warmer weather. The real surprise for everyone (all 14 of us) was the amazing quality of the food. Great variety of different dishes, all with fresh ingredients, thoughtfully combined into an unforgettable eating experience. You usually don't expect fine food at Wineries, but that was one of the goals the owners set as we learned during our informative tour. The consensus with our group was that they have achieved that and more. I shared the duck wings (big chicken wing fan during football season), oyster po-boy and gumbo with my wife. I have eaten a lot of gumbo, most recently in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast and have to say this was the BEST gumbo I had ever had. The duck wings and oysters were just as good. We did not expect this type of dining experience and think that most people would not since this is a winery and given it's location "out there". However, if you enjoy food and wine, you would be missing out on a hidden gem in the Charlotte area if you did not take the trip to visit Morgan Ridge. They also offer dinner and we now have plans to visit for that experience. I'd suggest going for the tasting and then buying your favorite bottle to drink with lunch. If the food was as good as it was for us yesterday (and we will be back to confirm their consistency) you will NOT be disappointed.
Recently visited this vineyard for the first time with a group of friends. We had a very nice lunch, took a tour and did both wine and beer tasting. The owners and staff are all very friendly. The setting is beautiful with seating inside and outside. Great that they have both wine and beer as our group had mixed tastes but here were able to find something for everyone. Plant a visit and stay awhile to just relax and take it all in. We will be back.
I spent one of my free days checking out some wineries in the area, this one was about an hour and a half from Charlotte, but worth the visit. The estate is gorgeous and they offer snacks and small plates as well. Get the full tasting that includes the sweet wines and enjoy the outside sitting area.
We visited Morgan Ridge yesterday to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived no one greeted us and we were just left standing at the door. Finally when someone came to greet us we said we have reservations and were told to pick a table. Then she walked off...no one explained the buffet or took our drink order. We finally got up and went to the buffet on our own. When we had our food someone stopped by and explained that you could order off a menu if you liked. I asked for salt and pepper three times...finally the drinks arrived...much later the salt and pepper. Very poor service. Not at all what we expected....Food was ok.....
My new husband and I decided to spend our honeymoon in a farm house in Richfield, NC. It's quite, peaceful, and close to the Charlotte area. We have a very close friend that is local to the area and encouraged us to visit Morgan Ridge. I could not have imagined a more intimate and personable experience. We arrived on a Thursday evening for wine tasting where we met Kim. Kim runs the bar area and is extremely knowledgable about the different wines and beer they brew there on site. The vineyard itself is beautifully landscaped and has such a romantic feel. We informed Kim that we were on our honeymoon and would be back for dinner Friday night. Upon our arrival Friday night, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Every table was lit by candlelight and my new husband and I were given the most romantic table on the patio. Unlike the previous night, the patio was lit by Christmas lights. Every one of the wait staff was courteous and wanted to make sure our night was perfect! And it was!! We were told the lights were placed just for us!! My husband wanted a particular kind of beer he had tasted the previous night, but unfortunately, it wasn't on the menu. So, one the the very kind waitresses got a flashlight and took off the the storage house to find him his beer! Kim also came to visit! We enjoyed every second we spent at Morgan Ridge and plan to spend every anniversary with them!!Thank you for making our honeymoon special!Steve and Tana <3
I went here with my family today to do a tasting. First off we were greeted with stares until finally a worker asked if they could help me. I told them I wanted to do the tasting and they took forever locating a form that described each of their wines. After they gave me the form the worker didn't come back to me and I had to move around the bar to get the attention of another worker who was pouring for another group. She poured my first tasting, it barely covered the bottom of the glass. Then the original worker came back and asked which wine I was on. She proceeded to pour about the same way as the other worker. My husband noticed as well as I that the other guessed we're being poured way more than me. They were getting about 1/3 their glass filled and one pour was so small I had to explain that I could barely taste the wine because there was not much to taste the first time. The worker only rinsed my glass when I tried a fruit wine but never rinsed it when I switched it from white to reds. The owner was behind the bar as well and was talking very loudly about her personal life including her divorce which I thought was extremely inappropriate in a setting like that. I've never been to winery where I had such little wine to taste and such horrible customer service and I would never recommend this winery to anyone. They gave me my complimentary glass but didn't even rinse it out. Do not waste your time going to this place.
The grounds are wonderful to sit or stroll. The wine I like the most is their Sangiovese. The Friday night wine down has great food (5 course meal) at a good price. Stopped by on Saturday to try a flight of craft beer and found them to be quite good. The Chef (Jason) does excellant work . Love the Staff and owners, real good people.
My boyfriend and I have been to Morgan Ridge Vineyards twice and I am continually impressed with their entire business. The staff are friendly and knowledgable, the tour is informative and the wine is delicious! I have purchased a bottle of Merlot each visit :) They have a buffet lunch on Saturday that is divine. They have a covered pavilion for parties and weddings, and a new pergola structure that is beautiful. Plan a day trip with your significant other or a day with the girls...either way you will not regret it!
This place is still an undiscovered gem! The people are warm and friendly, the atmosphere was open and welcoming, the wine is fabulous, and the food is delicious!!! We came for a girls' day and fell in love. Lots of different wines to taste. On Saturdays, they have a chef prepared buffet lunch that is to die for!! All at reasonable prices. We really enjoyed sitting at the lake in front of the big fire-pit. This place is a must-visit, and we'll be returning frequently.
I am not really a wine enthusiast, but I really enjoyed this. The wine tasting was fun, they make beer too, and the lunch buffet was very good. One of the owners hosted our wine tasting. She was very knowledgeable, and the rest of the staff was fabulous too. We will definitely go back.
I have been to MRV several times, and it never fails me! Love the grounds, the owners and all the staff. Lots of wines to taste, with something for everyone. Weekend buffets are terrific; Chef Jason is exceptional at his job! Kudos to all! Oh and look for the rose photo my (at the time 9 year old) granddaughter took :-)
Was not sure what to expect, was hoping to not have to try more muscadine wines.Oh happy days, no muscadine and very good VINO!!!Great atmosphere and great wine, hardly any fru fru sweet stuff, but real Vino. You will want to call ahead and get on the reservation list for lunch, we did not know it was available but it looked scrumptious. The more to come is they will be offering beer, yup the micro-brewery is in progress. We cannot wait to go back for Vino and Beer tastings...
The wine gets better every year and the experience improves as well. Since my last review the new season's wine has been released and it's awesome! I do not like Chardonnay because it is usually too dry, bites me in the back of my tongue. Well, I'm here to tell you that you haven't experienced Chardonnay until you try MRV's 2012 oak barrel aged Chardonnay - smooth and buttery. It has made a new convert out of me. Their cab is also awesome - just ask my husband. For a truly great experience, try a bottle of their Reserve. They have added new venues and buildings to accomodate their growing event offerings. New landscaping is just the icing on the cake. I highly recommend one of their wine pairing dinners. The chef really outdoes himself and the owners are there to talk about the wines. No better place to spend a Saturday afternoon - buffet lunch is available every weekend, and the patio just calls your name. Check them out on Facebook and be sure to stop by soon. You won't regret it.
We visited this winery with two of our friends on 9/7/2013. Scenery and atmosphere is terrific! It was a beautiful sunny day. We had 12 different wines to taste along with a small plate of cheese and fruit. Fruit wines were my favorite. However, they have a buffet on Saturday afternoon that starts at 12:30. It costs $15 per person and it was delicious! Stuffed talipia, fresh mozzarella & tomato, crab salad, craw fish soup, and fresh salad to name a few. If your visiting the NC wine country this is one stop on a Saturday you should not miss! Bon appetite!
We love this winery. We are local so have visited several times. It is a very laid back, relaxed atmosphere and great wines. We like drier red wines and they have several that we love.
