Eddie Z here again! Went here with a friend of mine visiting from New York and he loved coming here.A car and racing enthusiast for years,he for to see the retired race cars of former nascar greats including dale Earnhardt and many others.Lots of photos on wall to see and multiple exhibits as well.A nice afternoon spent here and very friendly and helpful staff! Bring the kids! They'll love it.
Nice history and the gift shop was stocked with racing stuff to satisfy all customers and fans. In "race city" close to hotels and some race shops.
Packed with Nascar and race history. Price is reasonable. It is worth the time to go thru. You will be surprised at what you will find inside if you are a race fan.
If you are a nascar fan you must stop here. Very unique memorabilia and employees very nice. Gift shop is reasonably priced.
Great racing museum, got a look into the past before every driver was a well polished speaker, and weren't afraid to get their hands dirty working on the car to improve performance. If you are in the area, you need to stop in and see all the beautiful cars!
I was in Mooresville, for just a few days, to visit my son who recently moved there. I told him he could choose one of the top three places on the trip advisor site to visit, and he chose this. I couldn't be happier that he did. First, let me say that while I totally respect and admire others for their excitement, enthusiasm, and passion for the sport of racing, it's just not really my thing. However, after going through this beautiful, little, immaculate museum, with such well kept memorabilia, I have a greater appreciation for the sport. The volunteers who work here are so knowledgeable, and friendly, and the first person my son met was from a town very close to our own hometown! But, I must say, probably the most important part of my trip, was the opportunity to meet 'the head guy.' Remembering that I know nothing about racing, one of the volunteers told me that the owner, or manager, had just arrived. I, in my gregarious nature, said I wanted to meet him (there were not a lot of people in the museum at that time, so they sort of pointed me in the direction of his office, and off I went to tell him how much I was enjoying his little piece of heaven, and how nice all the volunteers were. So, I enter this humble little office, to find a man sitting behind a computer, and I ask if he's the HEAD GUY. Well, after he rolled his eyes, I told him I was there to let him know how much I was enjoying his museum, and that it reminded me of little museums back in western NY that are run by volunteers who have a great passion for whatever it may be (i.e. Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport or the Historical Aircraft Group in Geneseo). He was very kind and pleasant to me, and then proceeded to tell me that he had been in the business for awhile, actually drove a little himself, and then that he had been the President at Penske Motorsports (or whatever it's called)! I was talking to DON MILLER. Well, even though I don't know a lot about racing, I remembered that Penske was a top contender for places to visit in Mooresville, and that Penske was a big name. Suddenly, I felt humbled, embarrassed, and a myriad of other emotions at having entered the office of such an important person in this field, but yet continued to be welcomed by him. He gave me his card, I picked up some information that told me a little more about who he is and the impact he has had on the racing world. A memorable trip, to say the least! This is truly a gem, not to be missed, and the staff and volunteers are outstanding at welcoming visitors.
What a wonderful side trip. You can tell the folks working here really care about the visitors who walk through the door, the facility and the displays. Spent more than 1.5 hours walking through the displays and talking with the folks working here. Be sure to stop at the 1929 Ford, a supercharged flathead Ford that Don Miller set a Land Speed Record in 1992 at Bonneville at the young age of 53. The small price of admission and the near perfect displays make this a must-see when visiting Mooresville, NC. Finally, this is a non-profit organization with proceeds going to support Stop Child Abuse Now through the annual Stocks for Tots fundraiser, this is more than just a "business", this is someone giving back to the community.
I went back to the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame for the second time in a year and a half. The reason being is I thought I might have missed something the first time. I am glad I did, not sure if they had changed some thing since my first visit or not but did see some new things. It is priced just right at six dollars. The only thing I didn't like this time was that Buddy Baker was not there this time as he was last time. Was such a joy to talk to him.It is a must see if you are a race fan and in the area.
The NASCAR Hall of fame has many original NASCAR cars, a great movie on the story of auto racing, a ride simulator, interviews with famous drivers recorded on video, an area showing parts of cars taken apart, a big v8 engine one can run, and enough new and different sections to last all day. We could only stay half a day and look forward to going back. (Somewhat expensive for a tourist place, but worth it.)
whilst I was there the hotrods were in town. added bonus.so many good things to see.really friendly people.
A little out of the way, this small museum was a pleasure to visit, not only because of its manageable size but because of the displays of old and new race cars. It is entirely run by volunteers who share the racing passion and the board of directors has many very well known names as members. The gift shop was affordable and has really a terrific selection of memorabilia at very fair prices. It definitely worth the trip!
The NC Racing Hall of Fame doesn't have the glitz or funding that the nearby Nascar Hall of Fame has, but it was an extremely enjoyable visits. Obviously the museum was created out of a passion for racing and it shows. Quality cars abound plus alot of interesting racing memorobilia. FUN!
