Moore Cove Falls is a 50-foot waterfall on Moore Creek, a tributary of Looking Glass Creek. It's pretty close to Looking Glass Falls and probably second in popularity after it. The easy hike to the falls is about 1.5 miles round trip and very scenic - the area along Moore Cove Trail (#318) has a ton of wildflowers in the spring. Moore Cove Falls plunges over a rock outcrop with a spacious grotto behind the falls. The Forest Service has built a nice wooden overlook near the base of the falls and visitors are allowed to walk behind the falls as well. On a hot summer day, the cave behind the waterfall is noticeably cooler than anywhere else and makes a great place for a picnic. Due to its popularity, however, you won't find solitude here on a nice weather day. Although some people do it anyway, the Forest Service strongly discourages people from climbing to the top of the falls. It's a big safety risk as well as harming the sensitive plants that live around here and people have fallen to their deaths. So please enjoy the waterfall from the base or the grotto.

Short hike to a wonderful area for picnic. Rock cavern behind small waterfall. Can't wait to go back

While this waterfall does not boast a huge amount of water flow, you can walk under the waterfall into a cave-like rock formation. It is well worth the short walk to visit.

There are more waterfalls per sq. mile in this part of the country than anywhere else. Using a guide, I went out every day to visit as many as possible. So many were grand cascading down long distances. The majority were unaccessible not Moore's Cove. First the trail is great, easy and never crowded. The previous day, running to my car, I slipped and turned my ankle. I thought I would have to call off my waterfall journey in N.C.The gentle single fall over the limestone overhang onto smooth rock below, was all I needed, I soaked it for a god 30 minutes. The swelling decreased and I finished the travel plans. Moores Cove, I now call Miracle Falls. Enjoy.

This hike is about 3/4 of a mile to the falls. The trail is relatively flat, expect for the first couple hundred yards. You navigate through a cove forest along a small stream back to the falls. You used to be able to walk underneath, however they have now build a viewing platform for safety reasons. Great hike for kids (flip rocks for salamanders in the stream) or older/out of shape folks. Round trip shouldn't take more than 1 hour.Note: If you must take your dog, please keep on leash and pick up poop. I saw a roomy lady let her stinky dog take a dump in the stream by the falls…kind of ruins to mood, let alone hurts the wildlife and cleanliness of the area.

I visited with my 7 year old son as part of our "weekend hiking trip". It was not too far from Hendersonville and made for a nice ride. We stopped at Looking Glass Falls and Moore Cove before heading up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a drive back to Route 26 and a return to the hotel. The hike is nice, with some decent elevation changes for short one-and-a-half mile hike. Nothing too drastic, just enough to let you know you are in the mountains. The hike ends at a nice waterfall where you can wander down to the river and go behind the falls. It is a neat experience for the kids . Actually I enjoyed it also as I don't think I've ever been behind a natural waterfall. It is a bit cooler than getting behind the waterfall at the hotel pools. My son enjoyed the hike and it seemed to be the perfect distance to keep him entertained without wearing him out. I consider it a good hike if I'm not being asked to carry him for the last mile. He told me it was the most awesome hike he ever did, which is great. We've not been on dozens of hikes but he has been on a few good hikes in the past so that is a positive review in my book.Worth a stop along with Looking Glass falls. I'd definitely recommend the trip if you are looking for a scenic drive with a few stops to let the kids out to get some exercise and explore nature. The only downside is the parking. It comes up on you quick when you come around the corner and on a busier weekend, like this weekend before school starts back up in the Carolinas, it fills up quick. We had to circle back to it and wait for a spot to open up so we weren't parked on the shoulder of the road ready to roll into the river.

It was a nice easy hike to the falls, although a few times we weren't sure if we were headed to the right place. The kids enjoyed being able to walk down and under the falls and that wasn't too bad to navigate either. Definitely see this one while in the forest.

Thanks to TripAdvisor and the people who post on it. My family planned a day at Pisgah National Forest and because of the post & pictures, we stopped at this location and I knew what to expect and how to dress for the moderate hike. This is a free attraction minutes from Sliding Rock & Looking Glass Falls and a must see! We had a nice family hike to a beautiful waterfall. Successful family day!

.75 mile each way hike in to a beautiful falls. Initial part of the trail is a moderate ascent. Lots of rhododendron along the way. Located between Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls. Do this first before you get wet at the rock and falls.

The hike to Moore Cove Falls was beautiful. We walked about 10am before the crowds arrived and had the place to ourselves. The falls themselves were a little on the light side but my nephew enjoyed playing below them.

Be forewarned: The rangers and some guidebooks says this is an "easy, 1/2 mile hike". It is more of a moderate 3/4 mile journey. I say moderate because of the steep, slick, and sometimes uneven trail. I'm not positive, but I remember it being shorter the last time (6 yrs ago) and I don't remember as steep a trail, so maybe the trail was modified since. The falls themselves are nice, with about 30% of the people we overheard saying the hike wasn't worth it, and others very appreciative. I must say that this time there was much more water coming over, so it helps when there has been a recent rain. If you decide to go into the 'cave' under the falls, be advised that the thin layer of mud is VERY slippery.

Visited Pisgah forest mid-May on a cool rainy day with family of 6 (including 5, 9, 13 yr old.) Pulling in/out of parking spot was hard and on a busy day would be nearly impossible since you have to back out into traffic in a curve. The hike was approx. 1.7 miles round trip to the falls and was a moderate hike. Easy for the kids and dogs and had some up and down hill sections. The path was wide enough and clean for passing traffic and places to step aside. Traffic was pretty heavy on the path. There were some cool things like a tree that grew on a rock and fell off and some wooden foot bridges over streams. Nice spot on the 2nd bridge going up to stop and put your feet in on a hot day or let the dogs drink. Nice smooth river rock bed so you don't get muddy at the stream edge. There were 3 spots that were muddy we picked the dogs up and carried them across. The falls were small but the vines hanging down made it look like a rain forest. The huge rododendrons will be beautiful later this year when they bloom. Look for the nooks and crannies where the water formed the cavern over time and holes that the drips have formed in the rock. You can walk all over the falls area and spent time exploring with the kids. Just not really that special and don't expect a private experience with nature if you stop.

The man who was cleaning up at a reat stop suggested we try this waterfall after seeing Looking Glass falls. It was sold as an easy half mile walk... not sure that is how I would describe it :) the trail was steep at times and the terrain was slightly rugged. We were the only people there that morning and we really enjoyed having the whole cavern and falls to ourselves. We were able to take some great pictures. All along the hike we saw wild flowers.. irises, trillium, violets... it was really a great time to visit.

Nice pulloff area and steps at the beginning of the trail It did get a little steep at times but not bad. .7 mile hike with bridges to cross. Would have appreciated a bench at the top to sit, rest, and just to view.

We were warned that this waterfall should not be considered "spectacular" but that it was unique because you could walk behind the falls. We saw pretty heavy rain for a day or two and figured that would help the flow. Unfortunately, it also meant the trail was miserable. There were bridges in some spots but muddy rivers to cross in others and it was slow going. I'm sure in dryer weather, the trail is much nicer. However, the falls were very small (I'd hate to think what that would be like in dry weather!) and it was impossible to get a good picture because there were people hanging out in front of and behind the falls. This hike was memorable, but not for positive reasons.
