I had no idea what a mead product was before stepping foot into Starrlight. This producer uses raw honey to produce an alcoholic beverage like a wine. But it has a very different taste. Interesting that it is not very sweet. Their sweet is like a mild muscadine wine. We went with another couple using a Living Social. Our server took time to explain each sample. They offer tours of the small facility on weekends but we got lucky as the owner was there and offered to show us around. Overall it was a good outing.Caution in finding the place. It is hidden behind a much larger building which houses a good restaurant I suggest stopping at before adventuring to Starrlight.

Starrlight Meadery is what America is all about. A dream turned into reality. The people are knowledgeable and friendly, the meadery is clean, cute and smells great, and the mead is outstanding! We've brewed our own mead and love it. We've been to Starrlight three times. It's over a 3.25 hour drive and we make it gladly. Just can't say enough about these wonderful folks and their mystical mead!

My mother and I love visiting vineyards/wineries so we headed to Starrlight Mead for something different. We did a tasting, enjoyed a glass of our favorite picks, then had a tour. This was our first mead experience so I don't really feel qualified to judge the wine other than saying we enjoyed the traditional meads and several of the fruit varieties. Everyone was friendly and informative. The owner also has a wicked sense of humor, which made it that much more enjoyable. Plus, the whole place smells like honey which is a major plus in my book.

We had such a fabulous time! Enjoyed some wonderful mead - my favorites were the blackberry and Nordic - and the tour was fun and informative. Our gracious hosts greeted us with a smile and made us feel at home. We will definitely visit again.

If you are in the Raleigh/Durham area, it is worth the short tip to Pittsboro, NC to sample and buy some of the wonderful mead at the Starrlight Mead. Mead, as one of the ladies told me, becomes popular every 2000 years and thank goodness we are here this time. I am by no means an expert in wine and especially mead but I will emphatically state that the mead at Starrlight Mead is amazing. You have to try the mead at Starrlight Mead to understand. It was a great visit and I left with three bottles of great mead to share with friends and family over the holiday. I will be back to Starrlight Mead the next time I am in the area.

Although the history of mead goes back to the ancient time, I am relatively new to this wonderful honey wine concept. I accidentally found Starrlight Mead which is about 25 min from where I live. The owner and the store people are very friendly, and if you visit there, they will explain to you what mead is about, how it is made, how it is similar or different compared to regular grape wine. They had me try several samples of different flavors. Interesting taste, but it surely tasted like wine made of honey. I bought a bottle of Traditional Off-Dry Mead, which is not too sweet, but has a delicately interesting, stimulating flavor.

This is an (almost) hidden gem along the back end of the Chatham Mills buildings. Not only are the different meads a delight, but the owners are incredibly sweet themselves. They are also creative in the different blends they experiment with throughout the year. You can't find another experience like this in the state as far as I know. The tasting room also features unique honey-themed gifts and each time we go we have to buy something for a friend. Whenever we have guests stay with us from out of town--Starrlight Mead is where we take them. Then once the guests fly back, we are at the post office the next day shipping their mead home!

We went last weekend for a tasting ($6 for up to 8 meads that you select from a list of about 14 or so). You have to drive around the back of the former Chatham Mills building (off 15-501, on the left if you are heading toward the circle in Pittsboro). Very neat and clean venue. Staff was so friendly and helpful and explained the mead-making process and even about the building/mill facility. Very unique flavors in both dry and sweet meads. Fruit and herbs. Wow. We bought a bottle of Lemon Balm-so nice for a summer evening around a fire....already daydreaming! The spiced was awesome and the one with pink peppercorn just MUST be tasted! Highly recommend.

Enjoyed this opening weekend and go back to replenish my mead as needed. Great success story and great atmosphere!

Great visit, mead is tasty and the staff is friendly and knowledgable! A must to go see and enjoy! Can taste a large variety of flavors from mild to wild. Take friends and family you can share in the fun.

This was a very enjoyable sampling of multiple types of meads. There was a surprising variety of meads from semi-dry to sweet to multiple fruit, spice, and herb infused meads. The owners were delightful and you could tell they loved their work and their product. The price was very reasonable, $6.00 for 8 tastings which included your glass. There was a free tour of the processing room as well. This with a lunch in Pittsboro makes a very pleasant afternoon

I went to Starrlight Mead with my fiancé, my roommate and her boyfriend. While looking for places to wine taste near Raleigh, I stumbled upon the Starrlight Mead website and we chose to go there on a double date and I am SO glad that we did. I love wine tasting and did not know what mead wine was. The location is less than impressive because it is a small building behind a much larger dilapidated brick building and difficult to find (we missed the turn the first time). Despite the outward appearance and the winery being small it was very cute, quaint, and cozy inside. We did the tour and the guy who did it was very charming and knew his stuff. You can tell they love what they do and the love that they put into their flavors shines through tremendously! We did the tasting and bought a bottle to share at the winery. My roommate and I also bought a bottle each to take home with us. I could have bought 20 bottles if I had the money to. The wine was DELICIOUS and not at all overpoweringly sugary and sweet like most flavored wines. I have already told all my coworkers about this little gem of a place and could not stop raving about it. I don't know how I'll ever go back to buying regular wine now and also look forward to purchasing more bottles for myself and also as gifts for people in the future from Starrlight Mead. It was just exquisite. My only complaint is that I wish I could have tried every single one and bought more bottles!

My boyfriend and I visited Starrlight on a whim and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The staff was friendly, and very knowledegable. They ensured that we knew a great deal about each item we were tasting, and didn't pressure us to purchase anything. The tour we went on was short since it's such a small operation, but it was great getting insight about the mead-making process from the person who does it!

From the moment I heard meadery I was excited, but when we arrived I couldn't have asked for a better experience or better tasting mead! They have flavors ranging from traditional mead, to spiced apple, to sage. Not only do they taste incredible but our server/owner had tried plenty of recipes and gave many suggestions of how to use the mead for cooking different types of food. She even told us to mix a few flavors together, ie. the ginger with the peach. (I can't wait to get home and try this!) I bought 6 bottles and plan to have more delivered. Friendly & knowledgeable staff and affordable prices make for a great stop on your wine tour!

My husband and I included this spot on a winery tour we did in Chatham County. Located right in historic Pittsboro, this place is a little treasure. Lovely assortment of wines made from honey. The folks give great information and background. Lovely place to browes as well and conveniently located.
