Nature center is being rebuilt after a devistating fire. Call before you head for a visit. Paddle boats are fun. Must have NC fishing license before your drop your hook or the on site ranger will ticket you.
We had a great hike at San-Lee Park one day while visiting the area. The fishing areas were busy with happy, friendly folks. It will surely be a joy to visit again.
Great place to stay, kids love to fish the "lakes" can always count on a catch. Thats important to young kids.
Great place to take a afternoon stroll. Its in a country area, with woods, a pond, nice paths. Plenty of room, plus a pinic area and restroom.
Went to San Lee Park for the first time today. Spent over 3 hours there between the playground, nature center (no fee), and nature trails. This is an excellent park for the entire family from toddlers to teens. The staff was friendly and informative. We will definitely be going back soon.
This park is packed with fun! I have enjoyed camping, local events, fishing competitions, and private events at San-Lee Park. If you are looking for a place to have your outdoor wedding, you can have a beautiful ceremony with awesome pictures at San-Lee. When you visit be sure to take the Paddle Boats or Canoes out and don't forget to pack your fishing pole! Oh and if you don't go inside to check out the snakes and other animals you're missing out!Camping at San-Lee is very affordable and it's located in a great area.
Camping trip...very clean and secure. Staff extremely helpful & pleasant, we are looking to make this an annual visit.
I am new to the area but found the park through word of mouth.I took my three kids(16,14.& 5) and they loved it. There is something to do for all ages. There is a kiddie area to swing, slide, etc and there are several trails to walk depending on your experience. There are several lakes around and even a camping area. What we enjoyed the most was the animal enclosure where they had birds, reptiles, and small critters. You can have picnics if you want but cannot grill. We plan to go back and enjoy the park some more. They close at 5.
we liked the park overall it was a bit crowded, but friendly fishing was good too. family atmosphere and the animal exhibit was also good
This great single track trail consists of 11 mile trail with rocks, roots, and jumps. The most technical sections can be bypassed. Would not recommend for beginners. But intermediate and expert riders will find this trail lots of fun. There is a lake with paddle boat rental, hiking, camping, and a museum with live animals, mostly snakes.
Great place for a family trip and some relaxation. Don't go too far off the main area because it is in kind of a crappy neighborhood with crack heads and Gang Bangers who may be an issue. Daylight is the best time though.
Nice park with lots of trails to walk. They even have a trail for mountain biking. During the summer you can rent paddle boats and they a free fishing equipment loan program. There's even tent campgrounds and a camper campground. Make sure to visit nature center and see many animals native to our area.
San-Lee Park is larger than what it appears to be. It has a great little museum with live critters, like snakes, owls, eagles, and other such wild native animals with detailed descriptions. The park always can host weddings and other events as it has a beautiful open area with stream, walking bridge, a dam. If you want to have a gathering of friends, it also has a nice shelter area with grills for cookouts, and a playground for the little ones. Paddleboats also during the summer. Hiking trails abound including challenging and easy trails. Nothing is missing here. It's worth the visit!
Nice park for families with young children, close to town. You can rent paddle boats and see turtles in and around the lake. The last time I was there (a few years ago), the nature center had live specimens of common NC wildlife, including venomous and non-venomous snakes (safely behind glass), small mammals (see a 'possum up close), also some large birds. There's a hiking trail around the lake, which may not be very exciting for adults, but kids may like it. There's a nice picnic area, and you can camp, too. (Contact the park for information about this before planning a trip.) There was some playground equipment. You could also fish, but I don't know what was in the lake besides catfish. NOTE: Trip Advisor's review form does not provide for a date of visit prior to August 2012, so I'm putting that date in, however the last time I visited San-Lee Park was prior to that date.
The park is fun and enjoyable. The building for the reptiles could use an upgrade. Other then that its fun and free, except the paddle boats.
