We played this course last week for the first time. Very impressed with the course and layout, they have really used the location along tidal ponds and estuaries to advantage. we started in fog which cleared to a fine day, but it was funny to realize those 'logs' we saw on the first hole or so were alligators. A lot of them on the course in water areas, but they add to the experience and appear to ignore golfers. The fairways and greens were in great condition for is time of year. We thoroughly enjoyed our day, except for the starting routine. They work on the routine of separating the morning and afternnon starting groups, but did not appear to adjust for the pace of actual play. We were started on the back nine. We stopped at the turn to pick up drinks and snacks which normally is quick but not this time, as there was a large group waiting at the bar and only one server. Almost immediately the starter appeared to say we were holding people up on the front nine. When we got back out, we were told to pass a number of groups waiting to start the front nine, only to find ourselves waiting behind a group in front of us anyway.
Great place to end your golf trip to Myrtle Beach if you are heading back north. Course was in great shape. The scenery was beautiful with water coming into play on many holes. Was not overbooked like the other Legends courses were during our trip.
Played here in early November and the course was near perfect. Had a few tee boxes that were thin and a few fairways that were thin but as a whole this place was spectacular. Bag Drop was pretty hectic when we pulled up but the guy was busting his hump that's for sure...probably could've used one more guy to help. Pro Shop was huuuuge for an 18-hole course. Guys at check in were nice and informative. We got lunch and a couple beers with our round, nothing spectacular but who won't take a free lunch and two free beers.Pace of play was ok for how many players they had there, but I don't blame em. Great course, great rate, great service, why wouldn't it be busy??Saw some gators and other great wildlife and my whole group hit the island green!!!!
I just played the course for the first time. I was told by many of my golfing friends how great of the course it is. Staying and playing in the Myrtle Beach area made this trip a longer drive than the other courses. It's not that far of a drive but a half hour longer than the other courses.Upon arrival, the staff that greeted us were great and very friendly. We checked in and found the counter staff just as friendly. We sat down for breakfast and the welcome mat was slightly removed as the lady behind the counter was not quite as friendly. And when we finished 18 holes, another lady behind the bar was not as friendly as well. The drill Sargent that told us the riot act before teeing off needs to lighten up a bit and learn to enjoy his job. The track is a challenging but fair golf course with lots of water and sand placed at or near preferred landing areas. The layout was well thought out and the course is in pretty good shape. A very good mix of 4's & 5's with five par 3's. The conditions are well maintained and it's a lot of fun to play. The only down side is that the wash rooms spread out around the course are in need of some upkeep.Look forward to playing it again.
My favorite course on Grand Strand. Challenging, scenic but fair layout. It has a lot of water holes, strategically trapped and is in good shape most of the time. Quick greens that can have some tough pens. Dan Maples used the land very naturally.
Course in great shape. Good breakfast and lunch special offered at time of visit. Saw some alligators around the many ponds.
My wife and I played there on June 25th, 2014. Course was beautiful and everyone who works there from the bag drop guys, the staff in the pro shop and ladies in the snack bar to the great guy who was the starter....and green fees include free breakfast, 2 drinks a piece and free lunch. We are not great golfers, but they made us feel welcome...which was not the case at Pauley's Plantation the day before...thanks for wonderful day!
This was my first time playing Oyster Bay and overall I was very pleased. It was a nice drive onto the grounds and toward the club house. The staff were very friendly in their greeting. Everything well organized and we even got to tee off early. Greens were in good shape and for the most part all the fairways looked as though they had survived the winter quite well. The gens were relatively fast and rolled true. For this course you need to pay attention to pin placement and yardage. A yardage book or GPS would be of great value. On most holes take one more club than you think necessary when hitting into the green. The views on many of the holes were excellent. I would definitely play again.
We played 3 of the other Legends courses and this does not compare. The included breakfast and lunch is not near the quality that we enjoyed at the other Legends' courses. The greens rolled well but the fairways were in poor shape and the Tee boxes have seen better days. This is a well laid out course, offers several waterway vistas and is very well bunkered.I will not retun until conditions improve.
Oyster Bay has always been one of our favorite golf courses on the Grand Strand. It is very scenic and also very woman friendly. However, we were disappointed this year. We had never seen the course in such rough shape. The fairways were very dry and the greens were spotty and bumpy. While we still had a great time, it was somewhat tempered by the appearance of the course. Not sure if it is because of the fact that it is now part of the Legends group, but the prices were lower than usual. I would rather pay the higher price if it meant that the course returned back to the pristine standards we had become accustomed to
Played October 26th, 2013. The course is in very good shape... Not excellent cause of the dead pan spots throughout the course. The layout is tremendous and very challenging. The only negative was the time it took to play the round. We had a 9:40 tee time and went off the back nine. The back nine took us 2:40 minutes to play and when we made the turn there were two foursomes waiting on the first tee. All in all the round took 5 plus hours to play.
Great location. Lovely course, sometimes hard to get a good tee time but worth the trouble. Great Sunset Beach Views.
Very challenging course, for what I was told was a municipal course. Got 12 holes in before a thunderstorm set in. Very reasonably priced.
Would have given excellent but some of the greens on the back have not healed yet from Aireation over a month ago. Great layout great course. Great deal!! We got Greens fees for $50 and got a hot breakfast buffet, lunch and two drinks included. I will be back someday!!
This course gives you a definite feeling that you are playing near the ocean. The views are outstanding. We found the course to be quite difficult, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. You may want to move up a tee box to avoid some of the problems. This course is part of the Legends Group, which offers some great deals.
