This time of year when it is cold I enjoy watching the ducks swim around.. A nice place to visit all year round.. When it is warm a nice place to picnic and sit and watch the water and the ducks with their baby ducks. Watching families float around on tubes wish I could do that. Watching people fish.. A nice park in general
As a local, I like to save my old bread for the ducks and geese. We often grab a burger from Hardee's and park here to eat and feed to ducks. This area is booming in the warm weather because it's a great FREE place for families to go wade into the water and cool down from the humid summer days. I often see people fishing here too.
We stopped here on the way out of Cherokee and it is absolutely beautiful here! We walked through the river cane forest and were all in awe of how tall they are! Very pretty place with lots of room to picnic, run around, or whatever.
This is such a great little park and the bamboo forest is such a sight to see just watch out for the stumps lol, the ducks and geese love to be fed and its such a cute little place to let children run and play. My little ones had an amazingly fun time.
The Eastern Band makes access to this island easy and free. A lot of the water is shallow and great for children to play in. There are talking trees, walking trails, volleyball court, pavilions for events, picnic tables and exercise posts. It's a great place to take your family!
Beautiful at night. Supposedly the have traditional bonfire ceremony on Friday night but none while we were there.
This is a great park. Bring some bread to feed the ducks and geese. Nice walk. Find the bamboo forest - it's worth a walk thru.
We stopped by this park, on the way to Smokies. The bridge, benches, park and the riverside, all give it a scenic view.We were not there for long, but i loved every moment I did spent there. So I would say a definite stop for all guys heading to smokies.
Great place for nature lovers. Absolutely beautiful and quiet depending on the time of year you go. Very good place for families to go to.
The kids really liked being able to get out and wade in the river, and we liked the accessibility. It's a nice break from the activity of the day, a chance to slow down and stick your toes in the water.
Plenty of parking and river access. Bridges over the river all over the place. The area is kept pretty clean and is just a gorgeous fun place to take the kids to splash and play on a summer day.
We have been twice while on vacation with our 4 year old and 15 year old. Both loved it! Wade around, build dams with the rocks, sit in the shade, or fish. Free and safe with easy parking. Let the kids play an hour or so while you relax.
Oconaluftee Island Park is a great place to bring your kids for some free fun ! My kids who are 9 enjoyed playing in the "river" and there's is also places where you can set up a spot for a nice little picnic. The water's not too deep so even little kids can enjoy it too. I recommend water shoes and even a tube or float so you can float down the river.
We happened upon this beautiful park when we were out riding from Maggie Valley to Cherokee. Wow! What a beautiful place to sit and relax. The kids didn't even have bathing suits but we let them splash and play in the river anyway. It's a little piece if heaven.
I rode my bike through this pretty park. People were picnicing and the kids were having fun playing in the shallow part of the river.
