There's a house, corn crib, barn, and several other structures there. Also, don't miss Mingus Mill just up Hwy 441.

We enjoyed our visit to the Village and our guide was excellent. I highly recommend that everyone go to the Oconaluftee Village to learn how the Cherokee tribe really lived.

A MUST STOP. Three important factors; 1. clean potty break: 2. info, map, schedule and other info from the friendly rangers; and 3. a wonderful turn of the 1900th century outdoors farm museum with all the various outbuildings to check out. The museum contains a fascinating collection of log structures including a farmhouse, barn, smokehouse, applehouse, corn cribs, chicken house, blacksmith shed and others. Demonstrations of farm life are conducted seasonally. "It's probably looks a lot like how your grandparents or great grandparents grew up. Also while you're at the Visitor Center, check to see if the nearby old Mingus Mill is operating that day. It's well worth the side trip.

But what are you expecting. Take your grandchild a tomahawk home and your mother/grandmother some stoneground meal and grits. You'll be glad you did

If you're coming into the national park from the North Carolina side, this should be your first stop. The rangers are very helpful and will answer any questions you have. We almost always stop here at least once per visit.

We were making the short drive from Gatlinburg to Cherokee and stumbled upon this beautiful visitor center. It's not everyday you drive through the Smokey Mountains and see a herd of elk grazing in a field so we decided to stop and check it out. They have some beautiful old log structures around the visitor center and even offer tours which we did not take advantage of because we were only passing through. The drive to the visitor center is quiet curvy but it supplies you with some breath taking views and excellent photo opportunities.

A great place to stop and visit. There is a visitors center there was a local band playing the day we were there. There is a mountain farm museum behind the visitors center that is well worth visiting.

Information of all there is to do in the area and when events take place. Can also direct you to the hotel of your choice.

We always drive right past here and never stopped. On our last trip we decided to stop and see what was there. They have some history and glass cases with some of the old farm equipment and different things. A gift shop for souvenirs and my favorite a viewing area of all the elk and beautiful mountains. The elk stay in the fields surrounding the visitors center some are really close when you drive by them. It is amazing to see them I will go back again.

Whether you are asking for directions or purchasing Park merchandise, a visit at the Oconaluftee is always pleasant. New new facilities are nice. The museum area is very educational. The option of touring the mountain farmstead is nice -- activities during the summer and a chance to see the elk during the early morning and late afternoons. My entire family has been coming here for many, many years.

Been to cherokee twice and visited this place both times. It seems to be set right in the center surrounded by mountains. It is truly beautiful inside and out. You get to walk around a farmstead and learn about everything people had to go through back in the day. Right beside the farmstead is a peaceful flowing river. We even saw some elk in the field last time we visited. Inside the building theres a lot of information and people to help guide you to your next adventure! Its such a neat place to spend an hour or two to learn neat facts.

The visitor center is a great place to visit to find out history of the park and the nearby area. Great book/gift store. The Farmstead is really interesting and provides some excellent photo ops. The river peacefully runs right by the visitor center and is a great place to rest in the heat of the afternoon.

This is one of my favorite visitor's centers - it's very nice inside. There were about 17 elk in the field next to the visitor center the day we visited.

This is an amazing place to let children see live Elk. The restrooms are clean, smell great and have a lot of toilet paper and is heated.

Love the Oconaluftee Visitor center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about the park and its rich history. The exhibits inside the visitor center are very cool, and the gift shop is perfect! We stop here every time we are in the area! Check this place out and enjoy the history!
