Inside the light house was really neat to see. The steps going up were pretty neat, and made some people nervous. The view from the top is awesome. very good learning experience for the kiddos.
This is one of the most beautiful lighthouses we have seen and we have seen lighthouse from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
Enjoyed seeing this beautiful red brick lighthouse, but disappointed that it was closed and only open in summer months.
We travelled up to Corolla to see the Currituck Lighthouse from Kitty Hawk. I love lighthouses, it was a cold foggy morning when we left, we got great shots of the lighthouse and Currituck Sound in the fog. Love the old area with many picturesque buildings, bridge, wildlife museum and beach area. Lighthouse was closed this time of year.
She's beautiful and well maintained. Get a lemonade at the Skarett guys stand (sp) really good. Hit Corolla Village Barbecue around the corner.
We visited Feb. 11, amidst howling wind and COLD. This place is beautiful. Be sure to walk out on the boardwalk/,marshwalk - you'll be glad you did.
Wonderful guides, extremely informative and smart as well as entertaining! Don't miss it and be sure to climb to the top! Four year olds do it! Great view !
Unfourtunately the llight house was closed when we stopped on a Saturday afteroon...we had been told it would be open, but as we found out a lot seemed to be closed in Corolla that we had been told was open in the off-season on the weekends. We still enjoyed our visit (even without climbing to the top)...this is an all brick lighthouse and as such is rather unique. We did get some very good pictures. This is co-located with the wildlife center and there are some nice trails to walk near the sound ro you stroll through the Corolla historic district...great stop for families and couples both.
My wife and I stopped in to climb the lighthouse during a labor day beach vacation in Kitty Hawk. The Carolina outer banks lighthouses are all rich in history, and Currituck is no exception. It is a beautiful monument to our past and a worthy visit. I wish they took credit cards or checks instead of just cash though. We had to go back to an ATM down the road just to be able to climb the lighthouse. The reason for the four stars is the staff. Some of them are very friendly, but others are a little standoffish. I still recommend stopping in if you are in the area.
Its all stairs, but worth the trip to the top. The view is amazing from the top of this lighthouse. You get some interesting history while visiting. The cute gift shop on site is one of the old lighthouse keepers homes. My kids 10 yrs and 11yrs enjoyed this.
We stopped here on one of the last days of our vacation and it was calm with not a lot of visitors. Walked the grounds, the gift shop is great, but as mentioned in another review the museum in the lighthouse base could use a little more. All in all it is not a time intensive visit which is good with a family of small children. The climb isn't bad and there are plenty of landings if you need a break or let people pass. Show a little courtesy when climbing/descending and you will have a nice enjoyable visit. There are also large clean bathroom facilities.
Friendly staff.I love climbing the lighthouse every year.Great views from the top!Its a great experience, wheather you are 60 or 6.
Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed when we stopped but it was still beautiful to see. Nothing could damper our day after seeing the wild horses on the beach at corolla! Looking fw to visiting when it's open to public. Not looking fw to the crowds though!
Great information from displays on the way up. Fabulous views from the top! Great photo ops. Lots of steps, but landings allow rest on the way if needed.
I stopped here as it was the only lighthouse still open to climb this late in the year. The visit was great as we were the only ones in the lighthouse for our climb up and down. The view from the top was great, but there was some strong winds, so I did not venture the whole way around the top of the lighthouse.
